AlexPewMaster (moved to @alexpewmaster:reallyaweso.me) | Hi, I followed this guide: https://docs.invidious.io/improve-public-instance
Now around 50% of the thumbnails won't load. Looking at the network in my browser reveals a lot of 502 Bad Gateway errors. Also, the Nginx container often complains about connect() failed (111: Connection refused) while connecting to upstream :

AlexPewMaster (moved to @alexpewmaster:reallyaweso.me) | In reply to @k-man:matrix.org i run invidious from Git. I've cloned the latest but still I get this error: Title: The video returned by YouTube isn't the requested one. (Android client) (VideoNotAvailableException) Are you running a public instance? If yes, make sure that YouTube didn't block your IP. | 11:18:45 |
AlexPewMaster (moved to @alexpewmaster:reallyaweso.me) | Question for every public instance owner: How much traffic is your instance using? I have a VPS that has a total of 20 TB of traffic available and I'm not quite sure if this is enough. | 11:59:17 |
Nihilist OLD ACCOUNT !!!! | In reply to @alexpewmaster:nope.chat Question for every public instance owner: How much traffic is your instance using? I have a VPS that has a total of 20 TB of traffic available and I'm not quite sure if this is enough. On my instance : 85TiB for march this year

AlexPewMaster (moved to @alexpewmaster:reallyaweso.me) | Holy crap, how many users do you have? | 12:04:23 |
Nihilist OLD ACCOUNT !!!! | Idk but a vps won't do on my side, going baremetal now, with gigabit dedicated connection | 12:05:05 |
Jason Lewis | In reply to @alexpewmaster:nope.chat Are you running a public instance? If yes, make sure that YouTube didn't block your IP. well not published public. but it is public accessible i guess. how do i check if my ip got banned? (i can access yt from the same ip) | 12:05:07 |
Nihilist OLD ACCOUNT !!!! | * Idk but a vps won't do on my side, going baremetal now, with gigabit dedicated connection, and no monthly transfer limits | 12:05:43 |
AlexPewMaster (moved to @alexpewmaster:reallyaweso.me) | * Holy crap, how many users do you have? (checking your stats via /api/v1/stats on Invidious reveals that you have ~1000 users, meaning that my 20 TB of traffic would be enough for around 250 users. Oh god...) | 12:10:04 |
@marioyd:matrix.yourdevice.ch | In reply to @k-man:matrix.org i run invidious from Git. I've cloned the latest but still I get this error: Title: The video returned by YouTube isn't the requested one. (Android client) (VideoNotAvailableException) I am also having this issue lately | 12:14:43 |
@marioyd:matrix.yourdevice.ch | Running the instance since a month | 12:14:55 |
@marioyd:matrix.yourdevice.ch | Didnt do anything so far | 12:15:05 |
@marioyd:matrix.yourdevice.ch | How can I check if YouTube already blocks my server | 12:15:23 |
@marioyd:matrix.yourdevice.ch | Cannot watch via clipious, freetube and also not via we browser because if this issue | 12:20:50 |

(checking your stats via /api/v1/stats on Invidious reveals that you have ~1000 users, meaning that my 20 TB of traffic would be enough for around 250 users. Oh god...) It is generally advised to not host invidious with a provider that has less than 100TB traffic | 12:46:19 |
@weidenwiesel:matrix.org | * It is generally advised to not host invidious with a provider that has less than 100TB traffic ( with DASH enabled) | 12:48:46 |
@weidenwiesel:matrix.org | Me, somewhere around 60 - 90 TB each month | 12:51:06 |
@weidenwiesel:matrix.org | Samantaz Fox: I think we should maybe add an advice to not use a provider with a low network limit (I.e. 20TB) the bottom of the new public instance rules (https://docs.invidious.io/instances/#rules-to-have-your-instance-in-this-list). | 12:56:01 |
@weidenwiesel:matrix.org | There really isn't much sense in people first choosing a limited hoster and then having to migrate the whole thing somewhere else a few months down the road | 12:57:10 |
AlexPewMaster (moved to @alexpewmaster:reallyaweso.me) | So this means that I'll be rejected? (https://github.com/iv-org/documentation/issues/531) | 12:56:43 |
@weidenwiesel:matrix.org | Dunno, your choice but I saw the topic come up quite a few times in the past weeks | 12:57:58 |
Nihilist OLD ACCOUNT !!!! | Imo the selection/monitoring/ranking on public instances should be refined a bit. Score should include invidious service uptime (current), the uptime regarding YouTube blockage circumvention, and the response time | 13:02:54 |
