TheFrenchGhosty | In reply to @thefrenchghosty:pussthecat.org but as I said before:
"they simply can't win without forcing DRM and forcing DRM will hurt the bottom line a lot (and the DRM will be cracked really quickly anyway)" Widevine is cracked, but the cracks aren't public because there's no "point" in having it public (since all the content can easily get published)
If youtube uses Widevine, the content couldn't easily get published since there's SO MUCH content... so the crack will end up being public

absidue | Just to be clear YouTube already uses widewine, but only for movies (both for the pay to view and free with ada ones), which makes sense as they have to stick to whatever licensing contracts they have with the studios, which probably require DRM. | 23:39:28 |
TheFrenchGhosty | And as I said in the podcast episode I did, basically youtube frontends/alternative clients wouldn't exist if paying for premium removed the crap: no spyware, no sponsors | 23:40:13 |
TheFrenchGhosty | The fact that paying doesn't change the fact that google tracks you + that sponsors are in all moderately popular videos... means that it pointless to pay | 23:40:56 |

Yes but as I said "the cracks aren't public because there's no "point" in having it public (since all the content can easily get published)" | 23:41:21 |
TheFrenchGhosty | (and the content that doesn't get "properly" published just get webripped by random guy who wants the content) | 23:42:25 |
absidue | In reply to @thefrenchghosty:pussthecat.org Yes but as I said "the cracks aren't public because there's no "point" in having it public (since all the content can easily get published)" You really don't want to be using any cracks in anything like Invidious, as bypassing DRM is illegal in many jurisdictions. | 23:42:51 |
TheFrenchGhosty | In reply to @absidue:matrix.org You really don't want to be using any cracks in anything like Invidious, as bypassing DRM is illegal in many jurisdictions. Sure, I wouldn't be able to work on it | 23:43:18 |
TheFrenchGhosty | but our Russian friends will | 23:43:25 |
TheFrenchGhosty | and I may or may not use it | 23:43:54 |
absidue | In reply to @thefrenchghosty:pussthecat.org and I may or may not use it all they would need to do is prove that you used an invidious instance, as a users you would get in trouble too | 23:44:34 |
absidue | In reply to @thefrenchghosty:pussthecat.org and I may or may not use it * all they would need to do is prove that you used an invidious instance, as users you would get in trouble too | 23:44:46 |
TheFrenchGhosty | Invidious doesn't depend on anyone, as I said when the takedown request happen: if they force us to stop, you know what to do | 23:44:53 |
TheFrenchGhosty | In reply to @absidue:matrix.org all they would need to do is prove that you used an invidious instance, as users you would get in trouble too Piracy "users" don't get in trouble | 23:45:30 |
absidue | There is a big difference between a DMCA request and breaking the law | 23:45:47 |
TheFrenchGhosty | Tell that to the thousands of pirated files I may or may not have downloaded over the years | 23:46:48 |
absidue | In reply to @thefrenchghosty:pussthecat.org Piracy "users" don't get in trouble only because in many cases it's too expensive to go after individual viewers | 23:46:49 |
Midou | In reply to @thefrenchghosty:pussthecat.org Invidious doesn't depend on anyone, as I said when the takedown request happen: if they force us to stop, you know what to do reminder that yuzu got taken down, nobody competent continued the project. | 23:47:09 |
Midou | Also this is getting off topic | 23:47:13 |
Midou | better move to pfo | 23:47:16 |
TheFrenchGhosty | In reply to @midou:envs.net reminder that yuzu got taken down, nobody competent continued the project. The project is basically done | 23:47:35 |
TheFrenchGhosty | ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ | 23:47:37 |
rank_ghost | Isn't yuzu is open source like invidious ? | 23:48:41 |
Midou | the discussion moved to #pfo:matrix.org, please move there if you're going to finish with the emulator talk | 23:49:08 |
absidue | In reply to @rank_ghost:m.wfr.moe Isn't yuzu is open source like invidious ? open source means nothing if nobody that has the knowledge required to maintain something like that wants to maintain it | 23:49:14 |
Midou | * the discussion moved to #pfo:matrix.org, please move there if you're going to continue with the emulator talk | 23:49:16 |
