Well. In my opinion there should be projects like Replicant or some sort of LibreChromiumOS. And many more projects.
Android is a system with great potential. Thanks to projects such as Termux, it is possible to use Linux applications on Android without major problems. Which means you don't need to buy a PC.
Of course, all systems like AOSP or LineageOS have non-free firmware unfortunately.
You can run a GNU/Linux distribution on some smartphones, such as Mobian. Maybe in 3 years you will actually be able to enjoy a well working GNU/Linux as a smartphone system. For now, it will take some time until then.
