poVoq | IRC is canonical here. Currently only the subdomain points at the server Conduit runs on so I can't drop it. And in a way I like it that way as it emphasizes that this is just a bridge. | 07:15:27 |

poVoq | Ah I read again what you wrote, so that is a mechanism for matrix to redirect addresses for federation? Hmm I might do that, but I also thought about it for xmpp, and it kinda goes against the idea of IRC being canonical. | 07:47:46 |
emorrp1 | It's just the equivalent of email delegation with MX records - you don't see firstname.lastname@mail.organisation.org even if that's the server postfix runs on. libera.chat does it the same way even though IRC is canonical there, just for the pretty aliases https://federationtester.matrix.org/api/report?server_name=libera.chat I mention it now, because I don't believe you can simply change the server_name later (in conduit or synapse) so best to drop the database while it has not a lot going on. | 07:54:52 |

poVoq | Hmm. Yeah that is what I thought when reading your message again. But right now I see little benefit with it and some longer term implications for maintainability due to the complex domain situation with freegamedev.net | 08:10:39 |
emorrp1 | fair enough, I just somewhat regret not doing it for emorrp1.name, what's the issue with your domain out of curiosity? | 08:12:39 |
emorrp1 | man this channel is easier to follow now I don't have all the duplicated messages from bifrost | 08:13:33 |
poVoq | Heh | 08:14:15 |
poVoq | The domain points at various servers under different peoples control and the coordination is not very good. | 08:15:04 |
