Is Attali an Aragonian? - maybe you know šŸ˜Ž, maybeā€¦ https://blogs.lexpress.fr/attali/2019/05/14/will-we-know-how-to-avoid-the-revolution/

@julian I have one of his books on my short list, a Brief History of the Future. Terrifying economist.

@Scribbles Nice, thanks for the tip, didnā€™t know that one. I reread this one every couple of years or so (am due another:) - and yes, like you say ā€˜terrifyingā€™, is very apt (heā€™s good:). Recentā€™ish interview with him said that the 21stC is African, not Chinese, because Africa has all the best tunes. A dude too

@julian Wow. Thanks for turning me on to that book. It is really no surprise he has written on that topic. Terrifying, but then again everything seems terrifying nowadays. Iā€™m optimistic it means we are on the cusp of something great, but humanity must act. Iā€™m happy to see so many bright minds in the Aragon community:fidgetspinner:

@Scribbles Maybe we could host a BookClubDAO - Contemporary Critical Theory & its Practical Applications for Distributed Ledger Technologies - always liked a zingy title me šŸ˜‚ (+ of course have so much spare time on my hands:) - do let me know if you start reading itšŸ¦‰

@julian @julian I am just an amateur trying to read more books again. If you want to teach me how to code maybe we can start a DAOšŸ˜œ -The book has absolutely made it on to my list, I am looking forward to reading it when the time comes. Iā€™ll inform you.

@julian Sure I donā€™t see why not, how can I help?

@bridge-bot:matrix.orgbridge-bot <julian>

@Scribbles Thanks. Youā€™d help by us going through the process of setting up a rinkeby test dao, and weā€™ll make note of questions, painpoints and any confusion - and turn that into shareable documentation. Ideally, I think a couple of hours, maybe in one go, would do it. Watcha reckon? :nerd:

Hi! We executed yesterday a finance vote within our DAO (yay!) and noticed that the quorum was pretty low. I wonder if that might had been a misconfiguration on our side or if itā€™s a bug/feature within Bella. Anyone can share some insights? ccing @pmp our evil DAO mastermind

hi, just ignore previous message, for some reason at some point I believe that vote was ā€œexecutedā€, even though it was just saying ā€œCurrent outcomeā€. Long days šŸ˜…

Hey guys, just wondering, what are your thoughts on DAO governance based on peer to peer review?
The best example Iā€™ve seen so far is Valve, the game developer company and Steam creators
https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/apps/valve/Valve_NewEmployeeHandbook.pdf (see page 26)
Pros:

  • It saves time. You donā€™t have to vote for an action to be taken. First you do, then you get reviewed
    Cons:
  • The rating process can be quite time consuming
  • As a member of the organization you have a lot of responsibilities and have to be trusted by your peers
19:08:34
@bridge-bot:matrix.orgbridge-bot <turupawn>

Has this been discussed before? Do you know about projects working peer to peer review on the blockchain?

19:11:50
@bridge-bot:matrix.orgbridge-bot <light>

@turupawn that seems similar to Colonyā€™s Dispute System, where users can generally ā€œask for forgiveness rather than permissionā€ and create tasks on-demand without a vote, leaving the possibility for someone to raise a dispute later. I think there are good reasons to require certain actions to have a large number of members approve (such as changing permissions, or spending a large amount of funds) but itā€™s entirely possible in Aragon to give certain individuals or groups a budget that they can spend at will, then if people later decide they are doing a bad job they can revoke the budget and redirect the funds.

This is of interest ā€“ ā€œdOrg is now the first legally established Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) under United States law.ā€ https://dorg.tech/#/ (itā€™s daostack [& I think MIT http://law.mit.edu/BBLLC] btw)
