darkrider | Hello everybody 😀 little question, I use Volumio for home audio and I seen nfs share don't work properly, it looks like it's mount, but no files here 😀 until now, I use samba share, but don't want any of Microsoft things in the house anymore, so is there something I do bad? Have read on web and nfs with Volumio isn't best duo 😀 do you using something other than Volumio? Thanks | 23:37:22 |
darkrider | PS sorry for my english 😁 and music what I want to play is stored on Freenas box | 23:40:14 |

andrewschott | darkrider: is your nfs share setup with the correct permissions? I don't use volumio, so I am not certain what would be the ideal method to mount a remote fileshare. I use nfs or sshfs for everything on my end. | 00:41:45 |
andrewschott | darkrider: Also, regarding samba, CIFS is its backend protocol which Windows File Sharing uses too, but its also the "mp3" of fileshares -- everything supports it. So if you have devices you cant modify, I would bet that it can use samba to get data. Not necessarily the case with other protocols. Even webDAV, which is also rather common. Especially in the Apple realm. | 00:47:39 |

Yes, if I mount it on my ntb (Kde Neon) it work fine, maybe I could do clean install of Volumio and try it again | 00:48:40 |
andrewschott | OK, but the permissions with NFS are a bit different, if you arent aware. The user mapping is done purely by UID, so you will need to make sure that (for example) user 1000 is the same on each system. In my case the first 15 or so user accounts are always created by a setup script and forced to be certain UIDs. Otherwise I am not certain offhand why it wouldnt work. Aside from NFSv3 vs NVSv4 issues. I did have a few of them back when I transitioned with my RHEL servers. | 00:52:47 |
andrewschott | And the same for groups (GID). | 00:53:15 |
andrewschott | Ooh, this looks like a nice software, thanks for the heads up! I will see if I can figure out if there is any specifics with NFS that one needs to worry about. | 00:54:33 |
andrewschott | darkrider: what does your exports file look like on your fileserver | 00:58:42 |
darkrider | Sorry 😀 I am nearly new to this, what export file you mean? | 00:58:18 |
andrewschott | Perhaps I am the one who is confused. Are you importing via NFS (or rather trying) to your Vulumio server? Your fileshare system will have a configuration for NFS shares. | 01:02:08 |
