@inphovore:matrix.org | In reply to @haskell:matrix.org Any Habermas fans here? What think of tech-assisted discourse ethics? Only wiki level familiarity, though I too am curious what and how you mean. Let us not trade snippets of philosophers legacy, tell us how they inspire and how interpreted in your own views | 19:57:59 |
@inphovore:matrix.org | In reply to @elegrant:matrix.org Discourse of the Ethiccest I love the discussion of ethics. I have made some proclamations of my own: a righteous rule of law is one that is principled upon Truth (if it is not true, it has no place in Law); it must protect the inculpable from violation by will or neglect. | 20:00:14 |
@inphovore:matrix.org | There is a difference between reason and reasons. I believe Voltaire rolls in his grave as his dream for an age of reason has devolved into an age of orgiastic reasons. | 20:02:32 |
@inphovore:matrix.org | Also, we find this word “rational” more in early discourse then the modern. It was once a refreshing break from mysticism and superficial presumption.
I take this to mean the effort to pursue measured and empirically validated ideas.
Misinformation and cognitive bias are our modern impediments. We are easily fooled, we believe what we want to be true.
Truth is not constrained by the horizon of our ignorance. If you cannot accept truths which defy presumption, you are in danger of being a hypocrite.
It is an impediment to believe truth must suit our tastes. That we must find them agreeable, that they must serve our own interests.
If you were confronted by Truth, are you sure you would recognize it? Or would your perception be clouded by expectation?
It is not that Truth is hard to find, it is that undeceiving the self is difficult. | 20:35:37 |
