@_discord_290565298866880512:t2bot.iojtomes123 Considering that jlc and pcbway do relatively cheap assembly, is there any blocker for designing a pcb with the dac and other peripherals integrated (except for the teensy and lcd) using smt components and being jlc assembly friendly? 18:30:11
@_discord_290565298866880512:t2bot.iojtomes123 I currently went down the pcb design rabbit hole and this seems relatively easily doable 18:31:35
@_discord_389139743381782530:t2bot.iopositionhigh There are really not that many parts that it makes any useful change. However you can get the pcb partly-assembled now from pcbway. The biggest issue still are the low height sockets. These you still have to buy and solder yourself since pcbway can not get hold of these parts. 18:36:34

@_discord_290565298866880512:t2bot.iojtomes123 Yup, the low height sockets are a pain to get, I am working on an i2s adc/dac board for an stm32h7 audio thing, so I might use what I learn and try to come up with some smt variation of the microdexed, if only it was easier to get all the parts necessary for integrating the teensy to pcbway or jlc, but from my research the mcu would be a pain and you would still have to solder up the bootloader chip 21:11:35

@_discord_290565298866880512:t2bot.iojtomes123 But I am not promising anything this will be my first time making mixed signal board with audio, but,I have to shout out the phil’s lab chanel on yt, great learning resource 21:13:23

@_discord_389139743381782530:t2bot.iopositionhigh what i have seen in the m8 discord and a few chats with tim, it is not that simple - at least not when you want to make a real "product" you have to go with 6 layers or more. I will never do that so i keep it at the as simple as possible route. 21:16:23

@_discord_290565298866880512:t2bot.iojtomes123 Yeah, it gets fun when the datasheets for some of those ICs straigh up say 6 layers minimum and 4 layers recomended. But good thing is that most of the reputable ic manufacturers also give you routing guidance, so you basically can copy one of their routing examples that works for you 21:20:49
@_discord_290565298866880512:t2bot.iojtomes123 I wanted to have bunch of ram on my board with the stm32h7, but I just gave up on that idea, since either sourcing ICs would be hell or routing would be hell, if I had to route 8 ram ICs 21:23:01
@_discord_290565298866880512:t2bot.iojtomes123 At that point it is easier to slap a CM3 or CM4 in there and run circle 21:23:47
@_discord_314447193039962113:t2bot.io.thunderbold huh 6 layers for just the peripherals and no MCU? 21:25:45
@_discord_290565298866880512:t2bot.iojtomes123 But, I will see what I can do with two layer boards, it probably won’t be the best, but it might at least have the same performance as the chinese i2s boards 😄 21:25:50
@_discord_314447193039962113:t2bot.io.thunderbold or did I read this wrong xD? 21:25:54
@_discord_290565298866880512:t2bot.iojtomes123 It was for an SRAM ic, if I remember correctly 21:26:22
@_discord_290565298866880512:t2bot.iojtomes123 You have to match the traces and if you have multiple sram ics it gets…difficult 21:27:09
@_discord_314447193039962113:t2bot.io.thunderbold Hmmyes with 8 SRAM chips it might get difficult 21:27:30
@_discord_290565298866880512:t2bot.iojtomes123 Basically if 64MB ram is ok, grab the daisy seed 21:27:35
@_discord_290565298866880512:t2bot.iojtomes123 that was my conclusion 21:27:45
@_discord_314447193039962113:t2bot.io.thunderbold But it's just SPI right? 21:27:51
@_discord_290565298866880512:t2bot.iojtomes123 spi is psram 21:28:09
@_discord_290565298866880512:t2bot.iojtomes123 but it is also running pretty fast 21:28:24
