Roger Maitland#7070 | Does Bambu require all the parts to be uploaded to the "cloud" - i.e. someone else's computer? | 19:36:34 |
dashlambda | Yeah, I'm not comfortable with the company but the automated PA AND resonance calibration before every print blew my mind. | 19:36:36 |
lightlyskewed | I mean, I could see it being fun to do, but with two little kids it's hard to find the time. | 19:36:36 |
Jern#4673 | My next machine will be a non-bed slinger like a CoreXY. The large bed slingers need a lot of space since the bed can extend a long ways forwards and backwards. | 19:37:57 |
dashlambda | I don't think so, but if I remember correctly you do have to use their slicer for some of the more weird functionality, like the stuff involving the LiDAR. | 19:38:20 |
qwelyt#8390 | No. | 19:50:57 |
qwelyt#8390 | I have a FlashForge Finder. Small and nothing fancy. But I've had it for 7 years now and I've had to do actual maintenance twice. The first time was when it decided that it should bury the printhead in the build plate for some reason. The second time was when a print failed and became a blob that broke of the leveling sensor. Other than that it has Just Works™️ | 19:54:04 |
lightlyskewed | Does anyone know if you can multithread CadQuery? | 19:54:07 |
dashlambda | My brother has a really old Flashforge Creator Pro for a long time and had been using it for his etsy shop. A little while ago he got the X1C and has had nothing but amazing experiences with it, he loves it so much. | 19:56:40 |
lightlyskewed | Hmmm... Looks like it's possible: https://github.com/CadQuery/cadquery/issues/579 | 19:57:54 |
sphink | I got a prusa mk2 around 2016, upgraded to 2.5 and that's it, still printing rock solid and super reliable, just a few minor replacements (a sensor, a belt and tons of new nozzles over time) | 20:08:13 |
felix.haeberle | I am saving money for the Prusa MK4 | 20:17:45 |
felix.haeberle | It will get better when they grow. Mine are close to help me printing ! | 20:20:41 |
felix.haeberle | That's what I hear too. Companys really happy with it. If I see the price tag of other printers I am somewhat tempted to buy cheap. But I guess it will be paid in work hours iver time.
Tge Klipper printers sound really tempting though.... | 20:25:11 |
lightlyskewed | This is the dream! | 20:29:49 |
diz#1680 | speaking of klicky and bed leveling and build123d, i made this in build123d: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5944312 , source is in https://github.com/Dmytry/Pythagoras/blob/main/mechanics/build123d_test/kinematic_probe.py | 20:34:01 |
diz#1680 | extremely repeatable even across deploy/stow cycles | 20:35:30 |

felix.haeberle | Do you know if the Prusa community or the Prisa Lab is working on a clipper based firmware ? | 20:39:24 |
sphink | I'm not in such a hurry, so I'd be willing to wait until they switch (if/when they do) to change mine to klipper, because part of the value of a prusa is that they have such a background of extensive printing hours at prusa | 20:42:25 |
sphink | On the cheap side of printers, the creality k1 is looking like a good compromise between price and value | 20:43:27 |
sphink | (At least at my side of the world, where even the cheap printers are expensive, lol) | 20:44:01 |
sphink | This is cool | 20:47:06 |
sphink | The choice of filament made my first impression be like "what? is hot glue?" | 20:47:10 |
diz#1680 | hehe | 20:47:19 |
diz#1680 | i use translucent PETG because it seems to have most consistent mechanical properties | 20:47:26 |
sphink | Really? That's good to know | 20:47:31 |
diz#1680 | it also works well for flexures | 20:47:36 |
diz#1680 | or christmas ornaments | 20:47:41 |
