cloudrac3r | thus ipv4 and ipv6 are both needed on the server for full compatibility. | 12:16:01 |
TheFrenchGhosty | In reply to @cloudrac3r:cadence.moe:8111 some people's internet connections do not have ipv4 Really I thought ipv4? :O That's actually a problem I guess | 12:16:57 |
perflyst | dont disable ipv6 O.o | 12:17:15 |
TheFrenchGhosty | In reply to @cloudrac3r:cadence.moe:8111 some people's internet connections do not have ipv4 * Really I thought ipv4 was standard? :O That's actually a problem I guess | 12:17:18 |
perflyst | http://howtodisableipv6.com/ | 12:17:35 |
TheFrenchGhosty | I never saw any point in it honestly | 12:17:49 |
perflyst | ipv4 will be dead at some point | 12:18:09 |
TheFrenchGhosty | And since my previous VPN didn't support it, I just got used to disabling it | 12:18:16 |
TheFrenchGhosty | In reply to @perflyst:snopyta.org ipv4 will be dead at some point People are saying that since a least 10 years, I'm still waiting for it 🙃 | 12:19:18 |
perflyst | there are the first ipv6 only servers
there are the first ipv6 only connections (or dslite variants where you share an ipv4 address) | 12:20:22 |
TheFrenchGhosty | I didn't know that, I guess I will start using it on my servers now (when I get one) | 12:21:58 |
perflyst | and you are right there are not much vpn providers which support ipv6, because as an end user you dont need it (yet) | 12:22:39 |
TheFrenchGhosty | So I guess, useful on servers now, mandatory on clients/servers "soon" | 12:23:58 |
perflyst | yes
but as i said above, with this shared ipv4, if you host a server at home you dont have any incoming ipv4 address because your outgoing ipv4 address is shared | 12:25:17 |
perflyst | and that is not very uncommon, the "normal" end user just does not notice it | 12:25:54 |
TheFrenchGhosty | ipv4 really need to be replaced completely | 12:26:40 |
TheFrenchGhosty | * ipv4 really needs to be replaced completely | 12:26:51 |
perflyst | https://www.google.com/intl/en/ipv6/statistics.html | 12:27:50 |
TheFrenchGhosty | In reply to @perflyst:snopyta.org https://www.google.com/intl/en/ipv6/statistics.html 30% ouch | 12:29:03 |
TheFrenchGhosty | The per-country graph is interesting, it shows that countries with a "new" network (india/germany...) support ipv6 more than countries using an "old" network...
I guess that's why ipv6 adoption is so slow, most countries are still using decades old network...
It also means that their next network will support ipv6... but their next network will takes years to come | 12:33:51 |
TheFrenchGhosty | ipv6 is a mess | 12:33:59 |
cloudrac3r | /edit #the-ipv6-discussion-room | 12:34:53 |
TheFrenchGhosty | 🙃 | 12:35:04 |
cloudrac3r | a little off topic is fine and fun, but I would prefer if extended off topic was in a different room | 12:35:22 |
TheFrenchGhosty | Sure no problem, it just that that subject was brough and I wanted to get some information about it | 12:36:03 |
cloudrac3r | I still have the old copy, I'm just gonna try this... | 13:43:04 |
