| viz | The slowdown is due to Tramp's file-name-handler but the weirdest part is: (1) I don't have any remote files so it should not get called, (2) this slowdown only happens when the function is called by xeft! If I call it myself, it barely takes any time to finish. And the caller chain in the profiler seems to confirm this too.

That's very interesting. What is your platform, and which version of Emacs? Linux and master. I couldn't figure out why since it seemed to be not directly related to Tramp? debug-on-entry did not triggered on the suspected tramp function all the time. In the end, I gave up and outright removed everything related to recent files since I found it disruptive in the first place so everything worked out | 11:42:30 |
