viz | Huh that is what I would expect but mine is completely empty | 19:20:06 |
viz | At this point, I should most likely restart Emacs but too much state has built up by now :( | 19:20:54 |
viz | Something for tomorrow, I need to go to sleep. Thanks for confirming that xeft is indeed fast, at least I can explore how to improve it | 19:21:49 |

viz | I restarted Emacs (rather it died) and this time, the database was actually created! However, the launch speed is still low: 0.9 s. | 13:50:14 |
viz | Hmm, the function `xeft--front-page-cache-refresh' is the hotspot: file-newer-than-file-p is taking a lot of time. | 13:55:14 |
viz | The slowdown is due to Tramp's file-name-handler but the weirdest part is: (1) I don't have any remote files so it should not get called, (2) this slowdown only happens when the function is called by xeft! If I call it myself, it barely takes any time to finish. And the caller chain in the profiler seems to confirm this too.
[ Sorry if this is spammy, I will stop if so. ] | 14:04:38 |
John Wiegley | That's very interesting. What is your platform, and which version of Emacs? | 17:30:54 |

Anyone have a OrgMode-friendly local LLM they'd recommend or be willing to discuss?
I'd love to be able to interact with my relatively vast collection of Org documents via chat.

viz | In reply to John Wiegley That's very interesting. What is your platform, and which version of Emacs? Linux and master. I couldn't figure out why since it seemed to be not directly related to Tramp? debug-on-entry did not triggered on the suspected tramp function all the time. In the end, I gave up and outright removed everything related to recent files since I found it disruptive in the first place so everything worked out | 11:42:30 |
