Genders: ♾️, 🟪⬛🟩; Soni L. | we want an alternative model to CLAs and uh what are they called again "rug pulls"? | 14:58:45 |
smichel17 | Agreed. And if we assume for a moment that we have magically solved the funding problem, we already have a solution for that: AGPL with no CLA | 15:03:09 |
smichel17 | We only need the CLA so the company can do proprietary relicensing, and that's only necessary to secure funding. | 15:11:14 |
smichel17 | * Agreed. And if we assume for a moment that we have magically solved the funding problem, we already have a solution for that: (A)GPL with no CLA | 15:11:31 |
chreekat | Wouldn't paywalling every open source project just be the equivalent of getting rid of open source? Sharing source code of proprietary projects through license agreements is already a thing | 15:41:36 |
Genders: ♾️, 🟪⬛🟩; Soni L. | but you'd share the source under a free license, just with an initial paywall | 15:43:41 |
Genders: ♾️, 🟪⬛🟩; Soni L. | and "we" don't like supply chain attacks do "we" | 15:43:56 |
Genders: ♾️, 🟪⬛🟩; Soni L. | so that's an incentive to get it directly from the source (aka pay for it instead of collecting scraps from distros and other third-party sources) | 15:44:18 |
Genders: ♾️, 🟪⬛🟩; Soni L. | (but we don't know. just some thoughts.) | 15:45:22 |
wolftune | Ardour is slightly this way. Paywall for full binary but source is still open | 17:04:47 |
Genders: ♾️, 🟪⬛🟩; Soni L. | well that aged quickly | 22:42:48 |
wolftune | zero FLO compromise really but convenience of ready binary paywalled to encourage donation | 17:05:21 |
Adroit | Leaving the mumble because no one is around today | 20:12:35 |
wolftune | sorry hard for me too | 20:13:58 |
wolftune | In reply to @soniex2:possum.city well that aged quickly what aged quickly? the Ardour example? | 22:43:41 |
wolftune | * sorry hard for me too, today is too hectic for the meeting | 22:44:22 |

MSiep | I've uploaded a significant update to https://crowdmatch.org. It now should display reasonably on mobile phones (does on mine so far at least!), and has an initial suggestion for the "Why" page, as well as a Projects page that invites people to pledge at Snowdrift.coop for now. | 18:59:22 |
wolftune | first impression: superb! | 19:33:48 |
Adroit | In reply to @smichel17:matrix.org The context is https://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2024/03/29/4 Thank you, that is what I was missing | 21:04:58 |

Yes it does look good on mobile! | 21:06:16 |
Adroit | "Crowdmatching empowers regular folks"
I remember that this was meant to mean "folks of ordinary financial means". I think "regular folks" does the trick, but only if the context already brought up traditional wealthy donors... | 21:07:58 |
Adroit | Also, I love this image ☺️ | 21:10:16 |

smichel17 | MSiep: You could experiment with making "See your impact" toggle-able by using a <details> element. Something like
<details>
<summary>See your impact</summary>
<div class="block">
<!-- Contents of the yourImpact div -->
</div>
</details>

Thanks for pointing out <details> and <summary>. I did think about enabling hiding it again but wanted to minimize complexity once the user has expressed interest in their impact. It's of course possible to re-hide it by reloading the page, but I'm not sure that having a control on the page to re-hide it is worth the extra complexity it would add to an already very dense area. | 23:57:14 |
