julianp | balloons: Have a look at this Docker Compose configuration to get your own Exosphere really quickly: https://gitlab.com/exosphere/exosphere/-/merge_requests/764
Will add documentation and tweaks to the docker-compose.yml file to make it easy to have custom assets (specifically a logo). But this should be enough to get you going.

frank.af | I'm laughing about brown
https://gitlab.com/exosphere/exosphere/-/merge_requests/660#note_982125068 | 22:18:35 |
cmart | since writing that, I realized every dark UI has this | 22:20:31 |
frank.af | Download image.png | 22:20:39 |
frank.af | so, fun fact: powdered gold (e.g. after precipitation during chemical purification) is brown | 22:20:40 |
cmart | that looks like a lot of it | 22:23:02 |
cmart | https://rivet.iu.edu/design-tokens/#color | 22:23:11 |
cmart | Download image.png | 22:23:27 |
frank.af | yeah, totally lines up there | 22:23:31 |
cmart | no way #A36B00 or #613D00 are "gold" | 22:23:42 |

frank.af | Hrmmm. Investigating RHEL 9 support, does exosphere have access to a RHEL subscription to enable updates? I'm using my own dev subscription to test, but that's not gonna work long term | 18:09:19 |
cmart | everyone we know of is using Rocky Linux or AlmaLinux, neither of which require a subscription | 18:12:10 |
frank.af | ok, is https://gitlab.com/exosphere/exosphere/-/issues/885 just a non-issue then? | 18:12:57 |
cmart | no, it means we haven't done the best job with issue descriptions 😁 Rocky and Alma are both based on RHEL 9, this applies to them | 18:14:07 |
cmart | there's a bit more context if you follow the link in description to https://gitlab.com/exosphere/exosphere/-/merge_requests/747 | 18:15:19 |
cmart | for context, we try to have complete support for Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux, and Ubuntu 20+
https://exosphere.app/docs/compatibility/#supported-instance-operating-systems
RHEL 9, Rocky 9, and Alma 9 came out several months ago | 18:22:51 |
frank.af | ahhh, that makes more sense now :)
I'm going to create upstream images for alma/rocky 9 | 18:26:13 |
frank.af | just wondering, is there a reason not to use cloud-init's builtin ansible module? | 18:55:46 |
cmart | cool, today I learned. looks brand new. Ubuntu 20 ships with an older version of cloud-init (22.2) that doesn't have it though. | 19:00:27 |
frank.af | ah darn, knew there had to be some reason it wouldn't work | 19:00:46 |
cmart | yeah. our cloud-init has to just work on all the distros that we support. | 19:01:03 |
cmart | and I'd guess Rocky/Alma 8 also ship with an older version. | 19:02:25 |
cmart | * and I'd guess Rocky/Alma 8 also ship with an older version of cloud-init. | 19:02:30 |
frank.af | yeah, pretty likely.
I've got upstream Alma9/Rocky9 images working, and don't seem to have broken any other images | 19:04:54 |
frank.af | @cmart wrt https://gitlab.com/exosphere/exosphere/-/issues/896
is there any need for debian<=10? I have 11 working | 22:48:22 |
cmart | cool! I don't believe so. 11 is the current stable version. | 22:49:29 |
