@nep_nep:matrix.bottomservices.clubNep Nep this is why regression analyses are so important, they allow you to investigate context far more 14:52:58
@nep_nep:matrix.bottomservices.clubNep Nepcontext (in the specific example given, wealth) affects how people mature psychologically14:53:38

The best generalization seems to be that most risks are tied to external conditions, and each age level displays its own particular hazards. In short, “adolescent risk” disappears on a level playing field. Unfortunately, the field is far from level. More than any other Western society, American grown-ups render youth a time of poverty and middle age a time of wealth, a political choice exposing our young to greater dangers. This suggests that claims of innate “adolescent risk” and “teenage brain” flaws not only reflect “a bias in interpretation that privileges the age, class, and culture position of the researcher” (Sercombe, in press) but serve to defend older
age groups’ economic privileges as well.

actually, this whole discussion reminded me of something from Paulo Freire's Pedagogy of the Oppressed, which, funny enough, was written by someone from here but received international acclaim

Self-depreciation is another characteristic of the oppressed, which derives from their internalization of the opinion the oppressors hold of them. So often do they hear that they are good for nothing, know nothing and are incapable of learning anything—that they are sick, lazy, and unproductive—that in the end they become convinced of their own unfitness.
The peasant feels inferior to the boss because the boss seems to be the only one who knows things and is able to run things.

As long as their ambiguity persists, the oppressed are reluctant to resist, and totally lack confidence in themselves. They have a diffuse, magical belief in the invulnerability and power of the oppressor.

which showcases how a sort of learned helplessness can be created based on popular opinions about a group of people, in this conversation's case, by being told that age is an insurmountable barrier to understanding the world, people resort to waiting for that "barrier" to pass, rather than trying to overcome it

@divinedragoon:kde.orgNoct Xcom 2 collection is historic low. Yay or nay? Seems like too good a deal to pass up 02:28:18
@Creak:matrix.orgCreakI'm not so much into turn based strat games, but I've heard good things about the XCOM games02:53:39
@divinedragoon:kde.orgNoctYeah, i saw 97% off and was surprised i havent seen many posts about the deal. Though i think 97% off is not technically accurate, it is still a historical low 04:21:45
@tadzik:tadzik.nettadzikdefinitely yay from my perspective08:46:20
@tadzik:tadzik.nettadzikit has been getting really really good discounts recently08:46:32
@tadzik:tadzik.nettadzikI'd say go for the cheapest option (base game) and see if you like it08:46:45
@tadzik:tadzik.nettadzikooh, did proton experimental just fix simcity12:09:24
@tadzik:tadzik.nettadzikYES12:09:26
@tadzik:tadzik.nettadzikthere was much rejoicing12:09:30
@tadzik:tadzik.nettadzikit should have a windowed mode though, one alt-tab makes disables resolution scaling and it becomes tiny, but the clickbox stays the same :D12:15:20

I played it for a while but it never caught my attention. There wasn't much of a challenge in it
13:47:59
@tadzik:tadzik.nettadziktraffic is the challenge, but economics just work themselves out13:48:14
@Creak:matrix.orgCreakThere are mods to make the game more realistic/harder (both for economics and traffic)15:17:37
@Creak:matrix.orgCreakI was a huge fan of the Sim Cities, but the last one (Sim City 5?) kinda lost me. Areas are too small to my taste.15:18:52
@Creak:matrix.orgCreakThat said I found the multiplayer interesting. I hope Cities: Skylines 2 will actually have multiplayer.15:19:27
@Creak:matrix.orgCreakThen I'll need to find friends who want to play it 😅15:19:50

@Creak:matrix.orgCreak I haven't installed one as I'm fine with the current difficulty level. But I do have heard several times that this kind of mods was very nice to extend playability 02:06:18
@Creak:matrix.orgCreakThis one seems to be coming back frequently in my searches: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=142095518702:32:45
