Well, the keys are stored in an encrypted backup file that is automatically created when you exit the wallet (also makes it really easy to restore), using BIP 39 passphrase. As long as the phone isn't rooted, shouldn't be too much concern about malware (I'm assuming?) crawling through sandboxed apps.

If you wanted, you could easily create a "cold storage" wallet using Samourai in offline mode, so your private keys will never have touched the internet at all. Then could use Sentinel (Samourai watch-only wallet product) to generate new deposit addresses without ever bringing your private keys online. When you were eventually ready to spend, you simply restore on your phone, and spend using all the tools Samourai offers.

To be frank though, Samourai is designed explicitly as a spending wallet. It is made to use bitcoin in a privacy enhancing matter, not "just hodl bro". Though it can be used both ways, all design decisions are made with privacy and security in mind for spending and using "bitcoin for the streets".
If they have audits and plans for desktop ports, I'm in

No audit, open source though. Prolly no desktop either, like I said bitcoin for the streets is much harder when you have to lug around a laptop to spend lol. But it's worth it anyway. Many ppl have bought an Android specifically for SW since it's not desktop or iOS. Have yet to see the regret.

Srsly what is your opinion on copperhead vs calyx vs graphene?
Never ran Calyx, so 🤷‍♂️. I have run both Graphene (formerly) and Copperhead (currently). Leaving aside all the bullshit drama stuff, I can talk about performance and support. Both of them go to Copperhead imo. Performance I would say slightly better, improved more since Android 11, and support is exponentially better since I don't get yelled at on matrix or reddit for asking a question or whatever. That's just my two sats, take it as you will.

I can't recall any wallet actually going through a formal audit off hand.

@telegram_1022333806:t2bot.ioDiverterEveryone worries so much about their wallet being hacked, meanwhile everyone's transactions are being traced by 100% deterministic links on chain due to poor spending algos and no utxo management, and the only real lost funds are when ppl give their seeds away to phishing scams or whatever lol18:39:38
@eric:fabric.pubericUTXO management is hard, but with JoinMarket it's profitable to help others mix18:40:12
