Bryan Hilderbrand | I have a silly template that tracks user edits and automatically gives them badges based on their edit count. It relies on the Contribution Scores & ParserFunctions extensions, but I'm happy to give it you you if you want to play with it. | 22:29:10 |
Bryan Hilderbrand | * Well, I'm very interested as well! I know darenwelsh is working on an extension called UserJourney that lines up with that goal. Also, in general, NASA's WatchAnalytics is a must in my opinion towards the goal of building a consensus at a organization and lends itself to beneficial gamification. | 22:30:19 |
thomasoneill | Thank you Bryan Hilderbrand! I remember WatchAnalythics and have been a little intimidated by it. UserJourney sounds very interesting, from what I can tell from GitHub. | 22:33:32 |
thomasoneill | I would love your template! We have had Contrib Scores for years and I have always dreamed of the functionality you mentioned. | 22:34:34 |
revansx | In reply to @thomasoneill:matrix.org I would love your template! We have had Contrib Scores for years and I have always dreamed of the functionality you mentioned. Me too, please | 22:36:25 |
Bryan Hilderbrand | I still have your email. I'll send you an email and then we can talk about the best way to give you my template. Don't be afraid of WatchAnalytics, it just works and is beautiful! If you're willing I can give you and Louis a demo of it. Aside from VE for broad adoption of an group wiki, I think WatchAnalytics is my favorite extension. | 22:36:35 |
thomasoneill | That is amazing!!! You are awesome!!! | 22:38:27 |
Bryan Hilderbrand | OK, email sent to thomasoneill & revansx. Let me know here if you don't get it. | 22:41:58 |
thomasoneill | Thank you! I have added WatchAnalytics to our backlog. | 22:56:15 |

tgr | Wikia has a badge system. | 03:30:36 |
tgr | WMF is experimenting with microcontributions, they are not really reusable though. | 03:31:04 |
Bryan Hilderbrand | In reply to @tgr:matrix.org Wikia has a badge system. Reading the description, that looks like exactly what I want! Any idea what extension it is? I checked a random wiki, but couldn't figure out which one it is (or if that wiki had it?). Also, they use a ton of extensions. | 04:25:42 |
Bryan Hilderbrand | In reply to @tgr:matrix.org WMF is experimenting with microcontributions, they are not really reusable though. What's a microcontribution? Something with collaborative editing? | 04:26:57 |

tgr | apparently not really reusable | 06:24:02 |
tgr | microcontributions are small and easy contributions with their own UI | 06:24:21 |
tgr | if all goes well the first will be released in a few weeks | 06:24:40 |
Bryan Hilderbrand | I still don't understand the contributions thing. Special:Contributions generally lists edits. What's an example of a microcontribution? Any links on what's coming? | 06:37:41 |

revansx | I just discovered the "intitle:" search code usable in Special:Search via Extension:CirrusSearch [1]. How cool is that! .. Oh, how I wish I had known about this sooner :-)

samwilson | Does anyone here use the ShowRealUsernames extension? I've made a patch to make it work again: https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/mediawiki/extensions/ShowRealUsernames/+/660657 | 07:51:40 |
hexmode | Sam Wilson: interesting. I'd like something like that that replaces usernames everywhere with real names, but that extension seems much more limited. | 17:56:00 |
Bernhard Krabina | No, but thank you anyway for the patch.
I alwasy wonder why there is no parser function to get the real username. Just a field that is pretty useless. Or is there a way to do it? | 19:09:35 |
Bryan Hilderbrand | I've used the WikiUserInfo extension before to show a users email, but it can be used for their realname as well. | 19:33:38 |
Bryan Hilderbrand | * I've used the WikiUserInfo extension before to show a users email, but it can be used for their realname as well. (not sure it's the best extension to use) | 19:43:01 |
cicalese | Most of the extensions that I've found that give you access to the user's real name only do so for the current user, not other users (because the latter is considered a privacy violation in the Wikimedia world). Usually what I needed was the latter. I wrote a small extension to do so that I left behind at MITRE. It wasn't much code, so it would be easy for somebody to reproduce. | 19:52:33 |
Bryan Hilderbrand | Yeah, that's the functionality I was after as well (other user's real names/emails). The extension I linked to above has the code that does it on the wiki page. Interested if it's done well? | 19:58:53 |
cicalese | Although I do not need it at this point, I think it would be useful functionality to have. | 20:13:38 |
Bernhard Krabina | I think getting the real name of the current logged in user should be in MW core as magic word... | 21:18:32 |
