darenwelsh | Oh pay no attention to me. I'm just whining. I try to browse websites by scrolling an article while avoiding the "accept cookies policy" button in hopes that my data won't be taken. But I know deep down I'm doomed. | 00:12:11 |
darenwelsh | I mean ... Glad to contribute! | 00:12:35 |

bryandamon | @tgr:matrix.org: That would also help support using MediaWiki as a scientific journal, in my opinion one of the most important things our community could do. | 03:38:22 |

tgr | bryandamon: are you involved with WikiJournal? | 00:14:37 |
bryandamon | @tgr:matrix.org: Barely, but I'd love to be more involved. I met Thomas Shafee in Berlin at the Wikimedia Summit and connected with regards to providing open access to scientific output. I'm helping where I can and I'm hosting their test wiki (wikipediajournal.com) and built some example forms/templates (although they really need testing and improvement). | 00:28:38 |
rundg | The input box extension allows you to put a search form on any page: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:InputBox but it doesn't apply the same behavior (autocomplete) that attaches to the regular search form. (e.g. https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/api.php?action=opensearch&format=json&formatversion=2&search=File%3AGif&namespace=0%7C12%7C14%7C3100&limit=10&suggest=true) | 16:30:24 |
rundg | Does anyone know how to do this? | 16:31:23 |
tgr | as in, how to write a patch? | 17:27:42 |
tgr | you'd have to change the type of OOUI widget used, probably | 17:28:09 |

rundg | as a workaround, I was able to take the entire search form and swap the 'good' default one into the place where the Input Box extension was used in the center of the page. | 14:16:46 |
rundg | By manipulating the whole form, I get the behaviors to go with it. | 14:17:04 |
rundg | /** Begin search replacement for Main Page */
var searchBad = document.getElementById('bodySearchHomePageSearchBox');
var searchForm = document.getElementById('searchform');
searchBad.parentNode.replaceChild(searchForm,searchBad);

bryandamon | As a follow-up to the link that tgr posted above, please consider supporting (or adding your thoughts) to the following proposal to get the Page Forms extension on WMF servers. Most of us likely use the extension so having the WMF support it would be great. https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Wishlist_Survey_2020/Wikiversity#Extension:Page_forms_on_WMF_servers | 22:12:19 |

cicalese | In reply to @freephile:matrix.org Kubernetes is coming to Digital Ocean Hah. Search is wonderful. Replying to a message from May 2018. freephile, I was just informed of requests to add MediaWiki to the Kubernetes DigitalOcean Marketplace. If anybody wanted to do that, there is a two step process that involves: GitHub Pull Request (https://github.com/digitalocean/marketplace-kubernetes) and Solution Submission Form (https://forms.gle/KxvFjoqi3ZQWCUUf6). I don't know enough about DigitalOcean and Kubernetes to assess the value of this, but I wanted to pass along the information. revansx, I think you just started using DigitalOcean as well. | 18:50:36 |
rundg | thanks cicalese I'll check into it | 18:54:47 |

examknow | Hi is anyone interested in helping with my wiki farm project? | 22:50:04 |
bryandamon | @hexmode @freephile ⬆️ | 23:14:39 |
hexmode | examknow: what is involved? | 23:15:20 |
examknow | @hexmode it started as a project to provide free IRC bouncers but it is now doing a public test wiki, a soon to be wiki hosting farm, and IRC bots | 23:29:42 |
