I bought a buck converter set. It's to regulate between 6v-3.7v to a stable 3.3v. This works but would 3.7v direct from a battery blow a ESP8266?

@ionised:matrix.orgionisedThe datasheet for the ESP8266EX shows an operating voltage range of 2.5V to 3.6V. You might get away with 3.7V but you wouldn't be guaranteed that it would survive. Always best to stay within the datasheet limits. A diode drop from your battery might be all you need to add to bring the voltage within range but you would also need to consider what the maximum battery voltage could go up to. A fully charged lithium battery might get to 4.2V depending on type.11:48:48
