Artur Scholz | So we would need another framework I guess, unless we want to write everything from ground up. | 20:49:46 |
Artur Scholz | There is stm32cube, which already by the name sounds fitting. I have zero experience with it though... | 20:50:19 |
cajt | modm.io is that framework | 20:50:23 |
Artur Scholz | In reply to @cajt:matrix.org modm.io is that framework Ok cool! That is the input I am looking for :) | 20:51:02 |
cajt | That external CAN peripheral is a huge impact on the PCB size, cost and BoM length.
I'm totally aware of the limitation of needing dual CAN. We picked a multi-drop UART Bus because of that .. some time ago, for not so unsimilar application.
| 20:53:46 |
Artur Scholz | Yes, in particular since that famous MCP25625 is so huge, it's already twice the size of the MCU ! There must be alternatives.... I hope | 20:55:03 |
cajt | .. but hey, dual 10base-t1s via some macphys would be a small step, starting from two CAN peripherals. | 20:55:32 |
cajt | Here: STM32H523 it got 2xfdcan, <= 512kib flash, 272 Kibyte ram and some smallish pacakges: LQFP48, UFQFPN48, UFBGA100 (all 7x7mm). The WLCSP39 (2.76 x 2.78 mm, pitch 0.4mm is just too far) | 21:07:42 |
cajt | not sure how many the layers the bga100 actually needs, but it'll require fine vias. | 21:08:44 |
cajt | ... and for those who care, it got ETM too | 21:09:49 |
cajt | What is the target application of all of this? | 21:21:24 |
Artur Scholz | To be used as responder nodes that are located on each board. The controller node will be raspi or beagle board or the like. | 21:23:00 |
cajt | how patterns repeat ;-)
Two things to concider:
- Is the redundant bus attachment actually required? Maybe redundant nodea might be a good design choice anyways, each connected to only on of the busses.
- UART multi-drop bus is probably an option. a single-initiator/multi-responder pattern is not too terrible to implement.
| 21:27:14 |
cajt | maybe the uavcan, opencyphal and dronecan people have similar requirements to their hardware. Might be an area to browse around. | 21:33:16 |

Artur Scholz | Hi all! In an effort to add/update assembly guides, we are starting with an easy one, the 1U structure. Have a look; and if you can, re-build one at home and share your experience! https://gitlab.com/librecube/elements/LC2101/-/blob/main/docs/assembly/README.md?ref_type=heads | 13:59:27 |

Welcome mimansha09
"beginner friendly" depends what you can do already 🙂 So what do you have some experience with:
- git
- bash
- python
- flying a spacecraft to the moon
- ...
python :D | 14:23:25 |
Red | how much of python and of git? | 17:37:29 |
29 Sep 2024 |
cajt | Can you actually know all of Git? | 10:07:00 |
Red | you can know all of man it's easier lol | 10:27:01 |
Red | but at least I want to know how much efforts mentors needs to do with someone if they dont know the word "git" of if they are further thinking git pull is cloning. 🙂 | 10:27:52 |

Artur Scholz | @room Attention FreeCAD enthusiasts: The 3U structure still needs to be worked on (https://gitlab.com/librecube/prototypes/platform-3u-structure), so that we can 3D print it and use for a big rover model. Who is up for this task? You can refer to the 2U repo as reference: https://gitlab.com/librecube/elements/LC2102 | 15:16:55 |

Jan-Peter | I was working on a 3U frame.
I have to double check what the last situation was | 08:09:25 |
Artur Scholz | Check the repo link. It is your work 😃 | 08:12:40 |

It is not a complicated task, and ideal for experimenting with FreeCAD. I recommend to open the 2U and 3U in parallel and then try to fix the 3U to follow the same design steps as the 2U (with dimensions scaled for the 3U). | 13:00:39 |
