Long room name or topic description discussion. Pros and cons. Issues with different applications and user interface clients. Wish for developers? Expandable and collapsible fields and maybe even a possibility to choose your preferred view modes.

Long topic description or room name pros & cons. ••• Room is "logged" & "World Readable": https://view.matrix.org/alias/%23long:matrix.org •••• Cons: Riot [desktop?] only has two visual lines, anything after that is not visible, even if we try to "scroll". [mobile app has scrolling there] If there are many many words in the subsequent lines, all this is redundant info. also it means in room directories [desktop] it takes up a whole page [mobile app limits shown info about rooms to be equal with all] It isn't possible to expand and collapse these fields or set your default view preferences. Until this is fixed long names and descriptions might annoy users? Pros: You can have access to more relevant information for the room straight in the room name and description. Room might be found by more interested users if there are more relevant key words. 3 Servers

08:48:06@grin:grin.hu@grin:grin.hu As for sticking to the topic I still believe such overly long aliases are abuse of the screen space, like when I quote anything to you, MilkManzJourDaddy [99-Problems/A📌🚁/Falayalaralfali] 💥🔨 Castigare troglodytam. Malleo pugnae aviditate. 🌊👋🙋\o 💥🔨 ZFG 🙌 ™¦¶␍ ↵␤↘↦: .
08:49:40@grin:grin.hu@grin:grin.huStill, Riot now seem to handle it pretty well and I'm happy not to see more in the default view. I'm not against theming, I will just not use it (as probably most of us wouldn't).

First learn the difference between an "Alias" and a "Display Name" before you try to lecture those of us who have literally been on this ecosystem for YEARS and built communities on here.

This room is to help newbies learn how to read a long topic, not for anyone's soap-box ranting. There is good information, above in the scrollback, despite that.

11:06:07@grin:grin.hu@grin:grin.hu Exactly what I was talking about, thanks for providing the example. In fact, you're completely missing the point how to talk to newbies. You are attacking people not phrasing things the way you want it. Also you are debating based on your own superiority. None of those help communication with strangers. And as a full disclosure I've seen and accidentally started "a few" communities in the past decades. And I'm also an arrogant asshole, before you rush to point it out.
11:07:52@grin:grin.hu@grin:grin.huAnd my point was not lecture you, and not to despise you but to share the view youo may not observe by yourself. If you were already aware that then it was not really necessary, and let's skip it; I see a high probability that you are not fully aware how offensive you are.
11:11:15@MilkManzJourDaddy:matrix.orgMMJD-MxO Good job further filling the scrollnack with your bloody SJW drivel. You are not special, snoflake. No trophy for your screen-puke. "Offended"? Good. Welcome to the real world.
11:14:45@grin:grin.hu@grin:grin.hu Suprise, I'm not offended. I would gladly discuss with you how you imagine matrix to be used since you seem to have somewhat unusual ideas about that. You seem to believe this is like a web-based forum, or some kind of QA webpage, but I am pretty sure (even for a special snowflake) that people wouldn't use it that way, despite your quite arrogant and often repeated wishes.
11:17:35@grin:grin.hu@grin:grin.huNot here though.
