monban | hey I notice that the Forum link on the webpage (https://opensuspect.com) is broken, should we 1) try to fix this, or 2) set up Github discussion on the main repo and just have it link there? | 19:36:06 |

bestonecrazy | fix | 01:35:53 |
Nice Micro | is anyone using it? does it worth to put in any effort there? | 01:36:28 |
monban | I don't who (if anyone) was using it, because it doesn't exist. The quick solution would be to simply remove the link. The longer option would be to make it link to GitHub discussions. The "real" solution would be to figure out where it used to point and try to figure out where those forms went? (Who was hosting them? did they simply stop paying or... something?) | 01:38:11 |
bestonecrazy | ok. | 01:38:46 |
bestonecrazy | I think forumation(or something similar) was hostng them | 01:39:20 |
bestonecrazy | Let me pull up the archived version | 01:39:33 |
bestonecrazy | https://freeflarum.com/ | 01:41:10 |
bestonecrazy | was hosting them | 01:41:17 |
Nice Micro | In reply to @monban:matrix.org I don't who (if anyone) was using it, because it doesn't exist. The quick solution would be to simply remove the link. The longer option would be to make it link to GitHub discussions. The "real" solution would be to figure out where it used to point and try to figure out where those forms went? (Who was hosting them? did they simply stop paying or... something?) github discussions would be the easiest as github we already have and use | 01:41:20 |
bestonecrazy | however, we do not have subcategories | 01:41:45 |
monban | I wonder where the old forums went... honestly if I'm going to set up and host something I'd prefer to use Discourse, just because I've used it before and it's easy to set up, but I'm not opposed to learning and using FreeFlarum if there is some benefit. Especially if we can somehow recover the old forums (were people posting on there?) | 01:43:14 |
bestonecrazy | yes | 01:43:32 |
bestonecrazy | I used httraqt | 01:43:46 |
bestonecrazy | Download opensus-forum.zip | 01:44:16 |
bestonecrazy | Does NextCloud have a forum feature? | 01:45:15 |
monban | I mean, that's good because we have the old forums, but that's not exactly in an "easy to import" format, like a mysqldump would be, we couldn't use it to, for example, recreate all the user accounts. And recreating forums / threads would be... potentially tedious. | 01:45:30 |
monban | as for nextcloud, ummm let me see | 01:45:35 |
monban | well Nextcloud is using Discourse for their own official forums... which is not a "no" but.... | 01:46:09 |
bestonecrazy | https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/integration_discourse | 01:48:25 |
bestonecrazy | This is actually good because we could integrate accounts | 01:49:47 |
monban | I like SSO | 01:49:54 |
Nice Micro | if you guys want to do this, I'm not gonna say don't do it, but is a forum at this stage really necessary? | 01:51:41 |
monban | I'm kind of a similar mind honestly, if we're putting it to a vote, I vote remove the link (for cleanliness), and get on with development. We can open forums when we release something people can play. | 01:54:30 |
monban | I just want all the options presented. Linking to github discussions would take like 30 seconds beyond just deleting the link. And creating a new discourse... I dunno their website advertises "30 minute installation", so... about that? :) | 01:55:33 |
bestonecrazy | When we need a forum, I will make one via wiki-host or some other way | 01:58:16 |
bestonecrazy | I say we wait until we have it sorted out | 01:58:41 |
monban | discourse hater? | 01:58:45 |
