@simernes:matrix.org@simernes:matrix.orgTo add to my original question, it looks like I can enter a local network ip address as the homepage url for github OAuth applications, at least they do that in the example in the official github documentation. If that works then I suppose it can run in the local network without outside exposure10:49:31
@jarbasai:matrix.orgJarbasAINot sure about oauth, i dont think i have that in local backend, i thought that wasnt in selene either but in a different repo (dont quote me on that). The local backend does not provide a user facing ui either, only the backend itself so you dont need to pair with home.mycroft, stt, wolfram alpha keys etc are set in a config file10:57:34
@jarbasai:matrix.orgJarbasAIAlso you can use multiple devices with local backend, its just not made for handling thousands of them like selene, but the idea is that you can connect all your personal devices to a local backend instance10:58:49
@jarbasai:matrix.orgJarbasAIThe main thing is that pairing is not required10:59:15
@jarbasai:matrix.orgJarbasAII have a public demo instance here https://home.jarbasai.online/11:00:20
@simernes:matrix.org@simernes:matrix.orgI'll experiment a little with selene, but I might try the personal backend later!11:37:26
@simernes:matrix.org@simernes:matrix.orgThe selene-backend documentation says that I need access to Google's Speech To Text (STT) API when configuring the Device API. Doesn't mycroft have its own speech to text capabilities without relying on Google?11:39:20
@jarbasai:matrix.orgJarbasAINo, it proxies google11:39:38
@jarbasai:matrix.orgJarbasAIAlso, those keys are no longer issued, selene used the old google apo not the new one, getting a legit key will be hard...11:40:04
@jarbasai:matrix.orgJarbasAIThere are offline stt options, see the ovos plugin for vosk or the jeon plugina for silero and scribosermo11:40:33
@jarbasai:matrix.orgJarbasAIAccuracy will vary depending on your mic and language11:40:52

The python speech recognition lib bundles a demo key for this, you can extract from there

@simernes:matrix.org@simernes:matrix.orgCool, thanks! What I'm doing is purely experimental so I don't mind if it's a bit off11:42:06
@jarbasai:matrix.orgJarbasAI* There are offline stt options, see the ovos plugin for vosk or the neon plugin for silero and scribosermo11:42:38

@simernes:matrix.org@simernes:matrix.orgReading this, it appears I should be able to use the mozilla deepspeech stt engine, but I'm not sure if I can get selene to use it? Looks like the examle configuration changes are on the mycroft device and not the backend. Any idea why the backend needs STT at all? https://mycroft-ai.gitbook.io/docs/using-mycroft-ai/customizations/stt-engine#mozilla-deepspeech13:19:48

@jarbasai:matrix.orgJarbasAISelene only supported a single stt engine last o checked, its not configurable. You can run deepspeech and configure mycroft for it independently of selene16:26:42
@jarbasai:matrix.orgJarbasAISelene is acting like a google stt proxy, this is supposed to increase privacy since google only sees everything like a single user, offline stt options are not accurate enough for daily use yet, this was a compromise until the tech gets better16:28:22

@natrius:matrix.orgnatrius aatchison: nealmcb Phison testman The room is still Room Version 1 - because of security thoughts it should get upgraded. If you appoint me mod erator i can do that as well. If you guys want to do it yourself, 9 is suggested right now. 10 is stable, but not supported everywhere yet. 13:39:51
