@irl_:matrix.orgirl [backup]heh, interesting that they would define it as an rdf ontology, that's a very w3c thing to do09:32:34
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcindeed11:32:19
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcits intense. seems like there are some parts that would be useful, since it came out of multiple meetings and dicsussions11:32:56
@irl_:matrix.orgirl [backup]yeah definitely.11:33:48

I think people who are so deeply immersed in adtech have a really hard time stepping out and seeing things from the user's perspectivee
I really want a Creative Commons style approach to privacy policies to exist. There has to be an easier way to sum up the various aspects into a few key variables.
11:39:40
@n8fr8:matrix.orgn8fr8Have a standard baseline, and then explain the diffs your policy has through some kind of iconography11:40:07
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcyeah, standard, vetted privacy policies is really the way to go11:40:57
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcthere could be the GNU Privacy Plicy, the Apache, CC, etc.11:41:19
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcEFF has an effort there11:41:28
@eighthave:matrix.org_hc n8fr8: I see your contempt emoji for the W3C thing, and get it. But I have to say: these things have to be formally defined to be implemented in law, and I think we support GDPR and laws like it 11:43:12
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcreminds me of dealing with the people who are deep in crypto11:43:41
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcI'm currently having a classic discussion with the maker of a "smartcard" HSM hardware who requires an arcane, poorly documentated procedure to import keys to the thing11:44:59
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcbecause "as the key material traverses a lot of unprotected interfaces (PC/SC API, CCID API, USB-HW, Reader, CL or CC interface"11:45:24
@eighthave:matrix.org_hche means the software installed on the computer and the USB reader hardware11:45:55
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcthat's full paranoid to the extreme11:49:26
@n8fr8:matrix.orgn8fr8It was meant more as a "hmmmmmm" emoji and not contempt. Guess I should be more careful! 11:50:44

@gina_h:matrix.orggina_hHI everyone, Looking for an easy way to support Internet Freedom? Want to help improve access to digital security and privacy tools? We need you! Internews is seeking volunteers to help improve an open source security tool called Lookyloo. Lookyloo is a web interface that lets you view the anatomy of connections within a webpage. In other words, with Lookyloo you can “dissect” a webpage while it is in motion. You can use Lookyloo to observe who has access to your information when you visit a site, identify malicious activity, recognize phishing activity, pinpoint lapses in security and flag suspicious behavior. We need volunteers to participate in a user test of Lookyloo, which will take approximately 40 mins. Your feedback will help the Lookyloo development team improve the tool and make it even easier to use! We especially seek volunteers who work as a journalist, legal professional, site administrator, forensic investigator or teach web development. Would you like to help? To express interest in participating in our user test, please contact Maya Ninova at maya.ninova@gmail.com for further details. We really hope to hear from you, as your feedback is greatly valued! Cheers, Internews & The Lookyloo Team18:25:10

@n8fr8:matrix.orgn8fr8This change by Apple seems like a good time for promoting our new CI work: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/01/app-makers-explore-desperate-measures-to-dodge-apple-privacy-rules/18:30:12
