The year is 2031. The world, including Africa, is now fully dependent on the internet for commerce, socialization, work, play, and communication. A true "World Wide Web". But the reality is far, far from it.
The bumbling FCC and current political administration have fully dissolved our "net neutrality" rules of the past. ISPs are now the gatekeepers of the Internet, and have started to block, throttle, and restrict our connection to the Internet.
At first it started with those trying to stream movies. "What? I have to pay a premium surcharge to increase my bandwidth to watch it?"
Then it evolved. "What the fuck, I can't use my Outlook email address anymore?"
No, no. You must use the email that your ISP provides you. Don't you know?
But that was just the beginning....
No more public wifi, at first it enraged the public. But over time, people just got used to the idea. And then they forgot there was ever a time of free public WiFi at all.
Trying to go on your favorite website? That is now prohibited, as there were highly critical remarks of the ISPs services written by people on there.
Don't like it? Just get another ISP. Oh wait - how could we forget. They forced all the others out of business and now are the only one in town :)
Oh, and yeah. That will be a $99.99 re-connection and maintenance fee, please. |
