@tobi:im.kabi.tkTobi (KABI.tk)There are many projects with the same or similar approach, why not getting independent and building it without other "frameworks"?23:19:33

@telegram_239497423:chagai.websiteFransoazo (FR) Françoise NOIREAU (Telegram) Another topic useful for travellers: the international language Esperanto.
Do you know that the hospitality exchange service's site Pasporta Servo comes from the eponym directory's book?

@telegram_239497423:chagai.websiteFransoazo (FR) Françoise NOIREAU (Telegram) Esperanto estas la plej facila lingvo, sen esceptoj, tute regula kaj do multe pli rapide lernebla ol aliaj lingvoj.

Ĝi apartenas al neniu, kaj do povas aparteni al ĉiuj.
Tiel ĝi kontribuos al mondo pli multlingva, pli justa kaj pli efika.

In reply to @mrkvon:matrix.org

At this point, after experiencing the changes as long-term Trustroots contributor, and recently being silenced and banned by a person in power, my hopes are the following:

  • to inform the Trustroots users that Trustroots Foundation doesn't exist and that the organization changed significantly under the rule of people who recently took over
  • by sharing my experience, to warn people who may decide to join the Nostroots hackathon that they're not joining a safe environment. If they disagree with a person in charge, they may experience abuse and silencing from him

I think the idea behind Nostroots is an interesting one. It's just not safe with the people who are currently starting to execute it, given their past disrespectful treatment of volunteers, conflict-avoidance, and lack of communication.
It's particularly confusing to read all the nice words in Nostroots README, and having experienced the practice that contradicts what they preach.

I'd prefer to resolve the conflict, if there was a willingness on the other side.

What I don't understand: According to the TR website the foundation has only 2 members, Mikael and Natalia. But I think both of them are not active. How come that an admin can kick other members? Theoretically only foundation members should have super-powers and all the other volunteers should be equal.

@telegram_599900952:chagai.websiteJohannes Moritz (Telegram)Ok, I was reading some links provided by mrkvon. It all confirms my position, that I have already for many years. Most people and volunteers say the legal structure is not important, it's all about the team, the volunteers and the code.14:03:55
@telegram_599900952:chagai.websiteJohannes Moritz (Telegram)But this is not true. The legal organisation is very important. I said already several years ago to Mikael it's a mistake, that the foundation is so smalll.... this was in a moment, when the foundation still had 5 members...14:04:48
@telegram_599900952:chagai.websiteJohannes Moritz (Telegram)In the end there were only 2 members....14:05:05
@telegram_599900952:chagai.websiteJohannes Moritz (Telegram)What happened in TR can always happen if you do not properly care about the legal background.14:05:26
@telegram_599900952:chagai.websiteJohannes Moritz (Telegram)Legal problems "killed" Hospitality Club and Couchsurfing. In CS all the volunteers had no legal power about the assets.... Sad to see the same happening in TR now.14:07:45

@roadlifehacks:matrix.orgTobiStill aren't these all points for going the way that trustroots seem to be going? Decentralized in sense of power/authority and technology. Seems to me like a way better sustainable approach than focusing on legal structures. Maybe I am missing something and my knowledge about the technical backgrounds is not that great but isn't that exactly the point of approaches like federating, matrix, nostr, solid - to not be depending on a certain instance, server, admin, leadership, .... . 08:04:31
@me:chagai.websiteChagaiLet me try butt in here. Although I do think these conversations are better off in a call, so there are less misunderstandings and also I personally don't like reading long text 🙈 I think these things are not exclusive. Trying to create a decentralized system is not an easy task and it's just trying, there is no guarantee that enough people will step up and help building this thing. In the meantime giving up on Trustroots in order to sacrifice it for a try at decentralization is kind of a pity, and the main argument for this is - no one capable wants to help run Trustroots, which is just not true. But yeah I realize this has less to do with legal stuff and more with people, the legal part is for me just part of it and it's an easy thing to stick to because it is clearly wrong to not be informing the community about a power change that not everyone is agreeing to and in this case it's even a legal power change.08:14:48

@telegram_88687823:chagai.websiteTill - (Telegram)hi. 👋 2 quick questions: a. is there something like a self-hosted couchsurfing organizing tool we can set up & use for coordinating stays of guests among local hosts for a local event? b. is there some kind of decentralized protocol (similar to matrix, nostr, or activitypub) suitable for hospex? (i.e. that allows federal communication of data about hosts / events / stays) if there is a yes to one of the questions, please provide a link or something :) Also please let me know if there is something in development but not usable yet.02:42:35

@mariha:matrix.orgMariha KozinskaI'll be presenting sleepy.bike (a bird's eye view at the project) at the next Solid World on Tuesday (https://solidproject.org/events). It will be a 10min presentation alongside other Solid-based social good projects. I'll mention WarmShowers and Trustroots and how Solid addresses the issues of social network ownership. You are very welcome to join the event.08:19:36
