Diego "rehrar" Salazar | Guiz | 15:45:15 |
Diego "rehrar" Salazar | Let's talk. | 15:45:20 |
Diego "rehrar" Salazar | It's September 1st now after all. | 15:45:28 |
Diego "rehrar" Salazar | ErCiccione you can't hide that you read this. Matrix reveals all. | 15:51:12 |
| * @erciccione_:matrix.org hides | 15:51:52 |
@mmxxx:matrix.org | hello all | 17:04:05 |
@kinghat:matrix.org | hi | 17:34:57 |
@mmxxx:matrix.org | how you doing kinghat | 17:35:34 |
@mmxxx:matrix.org | ? | 17:35:36 |
@kinghat:matrix.org | well. need to dig into this vuex library abstraction to add it to my browser extension. | 17:36:16 |
@kinghat:matrix.org | you? | 17:36:48 |
@mmxxx:matrix.org | I'm good right now, thanks. | 17:37:08 |
@kinghat:matrix.org | Diego "rehrar" Salazar: so where does this matrix/riot group data reside? is it on everyones device or server somewhere? | 21:08:54 |
Diego "rehrar" Salazar | If you run your own homeserver then you have a copy. | 21:14:25 |
Diego "rehrar" Salazar | Otherwise it's on the server hosted by Matrix.org | 21:14:38 |
Diego "rehrar" Salazar | Which is noted in the name of the room. | 21:14:50 |
@kinghat:matrix.org | ah ok. and signal doesnt host anything and all data is on each device? | 21:15:40 |
xmrscott-backup | Signal hosts servers | 21:56:41 |
xmrscott-backup | Signal servers are limited to relaying and storing public keys tho | 21:56:57 |
xmrscott-backup | (Arguably not much value in storing encrypted messages that one can't crack in a reasonable amount of time) | 21:57:34 |
@kinghat:matrix.org | i mean whatsapp uses signals protocol but i think they store all data on their servers? | 22:54:54 |

Diego "rehrar" Salazar | Something like this. | 01:51:08 |

@michelle:privacytools.io | Am I the only one who thinks the Monero podcast shows are just dreadful? I can't even listen to more than a few minutes, I've tried multiple times. | 17:26:26 |
@mmxxx:matrix.org | which ones? | 17:48:28 |
@michelle:privacytools.io | Also I thought the "breaking Monero" podcast series was wonderful. | 18:31:11 |
8 Sep 2019 |
| @bearerofhonesty:matrix.org left the room. | 11:29:28 |
@michelle:privacytools.io | There were only about a dozen, but they covered Monero security well. For example, I knew only the basics about ring signatures, but had no idea about the varoius improvements they've been folding in over time and how those have hardened it from common attacks. | 13:40:31 |
@michelle:privacytools.io | Very informative for those of us who don't follow the project closely. I knew going in for example that ZKP are fundamentally stronger than the probabalistic guarantees that ring signatures allow, but to just say it like that ignores the subtleties, and knowing the nuanced details is what makes it evident how resilliant the Monero system has become. | 13:43:46 |
@michelle:privacytools.io | In reply to @mmxxx:matrix.org which ones? Only the ones numbered with integers. | 13:44:26 |
