Grebehead | I'm trying to find a sueful map to explain the issue | 09:49:41 |
Thea | but should I have excluded Herne Bay East and Herne Village? And divided Whitstable East and Herne Bay West? | 09:49:49 |
Thea | or what is the other one that needs to be divided? | 09:50:44 |
Grebehead | Herne Bay East isn't part of it. | 09:50:44 |
Grebehead | Download kcc-results.JPG | 09:51:10 |
Grebehead | That map shows the KCC ward boundaries | 09:51:22 |
Thea | Faversham is its own constituency though? | 09:52:06 |
Grebehead | Here is a link to the local council district (not the constituency) | 09:52:12 |

Grebehead | Here is a map of the constituency which as you say doesn't include faversham | 09:52:55 |
Thea | ok thanks - I have changed the description, although not clear enough on what is in and out to restate it more precisely | 09:55:06 |
Thea | excluding Herne Bay East is enough to tip it though by itself | 09:55:29 |
Grebehead | I'm sorry about the quality of this, but I've just overlaid the two maps | 09:55:43 |
Grebehead | Download overlaid.jpg | 09:55:52 |
Thea | the newspaper list includes electoral divisions I know aren't in Canterbury | 09:55:56 |
Thea | and I don't know the area well enough to judge just from maps | 09:56:06 |
Thea | either way - I think you should talk to the progressive alliance because Labour are using that in their campaigning at the moment | 09:56:44 |
Thea | for now I think my conclusion is valid - it's TBC because it's not totally clear, but I think the Lib Dems are the most likely tactical choice right now | 09:57:23 |
Thea | and thanks for the amendment on the locals | 09:57:30 |
Grebehead | Here was James Flanagan's press statement on the results: | 09:57:43 |
Grebehead | On the new boundaries, Ida Linfield was elected to Kent County Council – the Liberal Democrats are now the official opposition on the council. In terms of vote share for the parliamentary constituency, the Liberal Democrats came second ahead of Labour: Conservative 42.2%, Lib Dem 23.5%, Labour 22.0%. Labour have no county seats in the Canterbury District, and in terms of changes against the General Election 2015 vote the Conservatives were down 0.7%, Labour down 2.5%, the Liberal Democrats up by 11.7%. We are the real challengers to the Conservatives in Canterbury and Whitstable, heading back to at least our 2010 level of support. | 09:57:44 |
Thea | locals aren't good predictors of general elections though | 09:58:09 |
Grebehead | I'm talking to the PA. | 09:58:14 |
Grebehead | Yes I agree, but the main dimension is the Brexit issue | 09:58:32 |
Grebehead | The Lab candidate is pro Brexit now | 09:58:41 |
Thea | the turnout is too low | 09:58:44 |
Grebehead | Download council-seats-chart.png | 09:59:14 |
Grebehead | Here's another chart about locals btw | 09:59:23 |
Grebehead | data sources from the council | 09:59:31 |
