@justinl:matrix.orgjustinlOk, to wrap up, I appreciate all the feedback. We'll be testing our upgrades this week and deploying them to live next week if there are no issues. Normally we wouldn't need as much extensive testing for a minor release, but given the SMW upgrade and the need to run update.php, better safe than sorry. :) 19:43:11
@justinl:matrix.orgjustinl I missed these responses earlier. To be honest, I haven't tried using --checksum in a long time. I'll try it again with a dry run and see how long it takes. 20:06:53
@justinl:matrix.orgjustinlFWIW, in my dev environment, the rsync goes to three servers (localhost and 2 web servers), each one receiving 7 full copies of MediaWiki and all extensions we use (need to move to a single-copy family design next year), so that's ~30k files per wiki per server, or about 7x30k=210k files to check/rsync to each server, so 630k and that's just dev. There are 6 live servers, so triple that count there.20:12:15

There are 6 live servers but only 6 wikis (there's a sandbox wiki in dev), so nearly triple that count there. 20:13:27
@justinl:matrix.orgjustinl Interesting. I just did a dry-run deploy in dev with --checksum added and it took about 5.5 minutes when there were no changes detected. Not sure why I'm remembering 45 minutes. I wonder if that was way back when still on-prem rather than in AWS... 20:16:12
@justinl:matrix.orgjustinlAnother reason it can take longer is when actually deploying updated code, at the very least most files have timestamp changes that have to be executed, plus printing the results as it runs slows down the process, so yeah, I can see now how a real deploy in the live environment with actual code changes, including lots of timestamp updates, could take much much longer than 15 minutes.20:27:39

@justinl:matrix.orgjustinl Thanks for doing that. Also, I forgot to take a snapshot of one of my two db clusters prior to upgrading to 1.39.10 and 4.2 and running update.php but no edits have been made, so i took one afterwards. If for some reason I needed to roll back to 1.39.7 and 4.1.3, would it still be fine even though I ran update.php against the wikis in that cluster? 14:53:07

@revansx:matrix.orgrevansxCan anyone send me some links that show, describe and summarizes the 10 year celebration of the Vienna History Wiki? I'd like to provide my organization with a nice write-up of that event with some nice reference links that include pictures and evidence of what a big deal it was for Vienna as a city (rather than to the SMW/wiki community).14:27:12

@revansx:matrix.orgrevansx * As this is my first post in Elements since the recent conference, I feel compelled to give heartfelt thanks to everyone who through planning, presenting, and participation made the MUDCon Fall 2024 such a great conference. Truly. Thank you. I was particularly awe-struck by the scale of the 10 year Vienna History Wiki.. I have never seen that many non-technical people celebrating a wiki! <3 .. So much so that I would like to show this to folks in my world.. That said, can anyone share some links that show, describe and summarizes the 10 year celebration of the Vienna History Wiki? I was so impressed that I would now like to showcase this event to folks in my world as evidence of the importance of local government wikis in public life.

@revansx:matrix.orgrevansxOk.. the combination of the Press Release [1] and the article in the Vienna History Wiki [2] are probably all I need for now.
