yala | gandhiano: I feel #transformap:matrix.allmende.io is more suited to talk with sam_uk about Transformap related questions than here. | 13:18:43 |
gandhiano | jon: would you like to make a contribution for this issue of the degrowth book chapter? | 20:56:43 |

sam_uk | @anewholm "It is technically "Open Source" and contains the standard GPL license in every code file. But it has not been made available explicitly yet." It's published on Github with a GPL licence. https://github.com/transitionnetwork/IIRS-common | 10:43:29 |
gandhiano | sam_uk: that's great to know, tks :) | 10:44:19 |
sam_uk | On the platform choice I appreciate that Drupal is more powerful, better written and more developer friendly. However most people are using Wordpress. https://www.google.co.uk/trends/explore#q=drupal%2C%20wordpress So to me it makes sense to develop solutions for aggregation that can be used by fairly non-technical people by installing FOSS plugins. Those exist already for Wordpress. Personally I'd rather have a sub-optimal system that's accessible and in use than a clean powerful system no one is using. | 10:48:58 |
gandhiano | well, no one is a bit exaggerated. It is still the 2nd most used CMS. And I see also our role, as technical experts, to be able to adequately inform the communities on the technologies they use, so they can have better communication, less overheads, and be freer | 10:55:11 |
gandhiano | this includes providing proper end-user experiences - and going out of some technologies where needed. That's why I like the whitepaper mentioned above in its different architectures of Drupal, some of which even make Drupal invisible for the user (you could e.g. have the new Wordpress admin UI - calypso I think it is called, which is independent of Wordpress, running on top of a headless Drupal) | 10:58:56 |
sam_uk | Yep fair enough. I don't get on with Drupal, I've personally found it very expensive to maintain and upgrade. I get the the feeling we're not going to agree on this one :) Which is fine. I guess it's about making the data portable so it doesn't matter if you choose Drupal & I choose Wordpress. | 11:02:58 |
sam_uk | Not suggesting the Wordpress code is better, but the developer community does seem larger and more active to me. https://www.openhub.net/p/wordpress I guess you could argue that's a bad thing.. https://www.openhub.net/p/drupal | 11:04:29 |
| @Magnap:matrix.org changed their display name from Magnap to 𝓜𝓪𝓰𝓷𝓪𝓹. | 11:42:13 |
anewholm | sam_uk: by "available explicitly" i mean that TN have NOT explicitly agreed for me to simply download it, extend it for my own purposes. It would be rude to do so without asking them first wouldn't you agree? | 11:53:23 |
anewholm | also: the GITHub version is not the latest. The latest version is fully LAMP platform independent and without references to Transition Towns (TT) in it. A wrapper Module / Plugin provides the TT branding | 11:53:24 |
sam_uk | Fair enough. My view is if you publish it GPL then it's published GPL.. | 11:58:28 |
anewholm | yep. like it. agreed. i wanted to ask them first anyways... | 11:59:06 |
sam_uk | Have you got the latest version? Could you upload it to github? Or do you know where I might find it? | 11:59:09 |
anewholm | its only on my laptop i'm afraid | 11:59:22 |
sam_uk | Which died? | 11:59:39 |
anewholm | i can complete, tidy and upload if there is a good reason to. | 11:59:45 |
anewholm | no its there | 11:59:46 |
anewholm | but the project was halted just as i was finishing it | 12:00:02 |
anewholm | and it would take me some time to upload it in to my head to finish the last bits and do full testing runs etc. | 12:00:20 |
anewholm | so i will only do that if there is good reason | 12:00:28 |
