FantasyCookie17 | I’ve actually made the thought experiment of being able to “turn autism off and on”… I wondered whether it might hurt to do so? After all, sensory perception and such would change… | 17:29:13 |
@ij:kahakai.de | Hmmm, it's more like "How can't they see/understand?!" . It's frustrating that I seem to got hired for my skills, but on the other hand they ignore them/my recommendations based on my skills... I don't know if it has really to do with autism or not, maybe it's just a mind set... people with a mind set of "well, I don't care as long as I get my money..." might be able to better deal with that... | 17:49:15 |
@polpotkillallforcommunism:matrix.org | Most people are stuck with employers that never listen to them and order them around. | 18:03:25 |
@polpotkillallforcommunism:matrix.org | It is called a job | 18:03:31 |
@polpotkillallforcommunism:matrix.org | You are not being paid to play minecraft and eat cheesecake. | 18:04:17 |
@polpotkillallforcommunism:matrix.org | In fact the money is the reward you get for doing work for somebody else. | 18:05:34 |
@polpotkillallforcommunism:matrix.org | Even something fun like putting together drones for professional photographers who
take pictures of properties for real estate agents, IS NOT fun. It is a job. | 18:07:54 |
@polpotkillallforcommunism:matrix.org | You are given deadlines, budget limits, and you need to break routines every day
because you need to think about what other people want from you, otherwise you
will receive no money. | 18:09:17 |
@polpotkillallforcommunism:matrix.org | Autistic people can be extremely inflexible. This can make them difficult employees
and horrible emotionally cold uncaring employers. | 18:15:58 |

People that are almost undetectably autistic have a very good idea of how normal people think and act. Those far down the spectrum inhabit another universe, so a sudden change into a neurotypical would be just as traumatic as being reincarnated as Joe Biden.

FantasyCookie17 | In reply to @polpotkillallforcommunism:matrix.org Autistics can be extremely inflexible. This can make them difficult employees
or sometimes in rare cases, horrible emotionally cold uncaring employers. Autistics aren’t “emotionally cold”. We may have a different sense of empathy, and may have difficulties understanding the feelings of NTs, however, that doesn’t make us “horrible”. | 08:55:32 |

You seem to have a distorted view of what being autistic is like, and how the spectrum works… | 08:56:26 |
@polpotkillallforcommunism:matrix.org | umm.... I look after autistic people as a job... | 09:19:42 |
@polpotkillallforcommunism:matrix.org | It is a disability, and the further down the spectrum somebody is, the more problems they have. | 09:21:53 |
@polpotkillallforcommunism:matrix.org | People are diagnosed today that were never diagnosed 20 years ago.
So the population of high functioning autists has increased compared to the low functioning autists. | 09:25:31 |

@polpotkillallforcommunism:matrix.org | With some of the kids it can be hard to socialize them because they
will be ok most of the time and then randomly brutally attack the others for no reason.
You will repeatedly remind them of why that is bad and they will never care.
Some get better with age, others get worse with age. Some can learn. Others cannot.
Then you have those that dislike EVER seeing other human beings, let alone talking to them.
They live in the house usually on their computer. They never see a doctor unless they are dying
etc, etc huge problems. | 09:42:11 |
@polpotkillallforcommunism:matrix.org | Some have little urge for routines. Others have routines that are so strict that it
cripples them. One dude lived on orange juice and white bread, he was sick much of the time
, his teeth were decaying, it was very hard to book a doctors visit because he INSISTED
that it could only be at 6:00 AM in the morning on a Monday. | 09:52:41 |
@polpotkillallforcommunism:matrix.org | He almost lost it with the doctor, so we knew it would be a disaster with a dentist.
He did allow one carer that had known him for five years to brush his teeth. So
we religiously brushed his teeth and slowly over the next year expanded his diet to
include pies pasties and chicken soup. | 10:01:28 |

@polpotkillallforcommunism:matrix.org | Where as most of the people here only find social interaction a bit difficult and that is it.
So high-functioning autism.
| 10:25:39 |
FantasyCookie17 | My point is that being neurotypical might actually be traumatic for me, even though I am high functioning and don’t “inhabit my own universe”, so it seems you oversimplify a bit here. | 10:41:17 |
