tilllt | Is there a way to use the Frontmanager "fontbase" with scribus? Activated fonts don't appear in scribus... | 10:42:15 |

Diniz Cabreira | In reply to @tilllt:matrix.org Is there a way to use the Frontmanager "fontbase" with scribus? Activated fonts don't appear in scribus... They should. Have you tried reloading Scribus? Both Scribus and Inkscape read fonts on startup, so if you activate or deactivate one, you will have to reload for them to update the font list. | 18:40:54 |

tilllt | At least in scribus. But then I found out inkscape does Multipage and Textflow now so everything was fine. | 18:45:08 |

I love that inkscape is moving in that direction, because I use it 90% of the time for my work. But it is ages from being on the level of Scribus for layout and fine text control. | 20:05:26 |

I am a die hard fan of Inkscape and always think about if there were a text continuation mechanism in Inkscape just as Scribus. | 10:06:50 |

Diniz Cabreira | In reply to @redindian:matrix.org I am a die hard fan of Inkscape and always think about if there were a text continuation mechanism in Inkscape just as Scribus. That woud be very useful indeed. And, in general, better text manipulation tools. Ways to more finely control tracking and kerning, hyphenation (currently not supported), widow and orphan lines and words, etc. | 11:22:55 |
Diniz Cabreira | That said, I think we need to keep in mind that the focus of Inkscape is different. Inkscape is meant to process relatively small amounts of text, from a logo to a brochure, and not large ones, like a book. | 11:23:55 |

But even for small amounts of text it would be really fine after the implimentation of multi page editing in Inkscape. That's what I meant 😀😃 Anyway I don't want to discuss more about Inkscape in the Scribus ground 😆😅 | 06:58:35 |

Manuel Bärenz | I'm trying to add page numbers to an existing PDF. I opened the PDF in scribus. But when I try to insert a character on the master page, the Insert -> Character check box is greyed, and so are all options to insert characters (in particular, the page number) | 14:26:19 |
28 Nov 2023 |
a.l.e | ... You might first need to create a text frame? | 09:39:20 |
29 Nov 2023 |
Manuel Bärenz | Hah, true. Ok, that hurdle is taken now :) I've added a text frame to my master page, and in that I could insert the page number. But now I don't see the page numbers in the document. | 13:15:45 |
a.l.e | well the pages must be based on that master page... and, if you have a background on the page you will need to put the page number on a layer that is on top of the layer where the imported content is. | 13:55:57 |
Manuel Bärenz |
well the pages must be based on that master page...
I guess I didn't realize that I have to do this separately, and I don't know how to do that for an imported PDF
| 14:35:30 |
a.l.e | hard to say, but normally, an imported pd is just a normal scribus document. | 15:44:33 |
a.l.e | if you can share one page of your .sla i can have a look at it. (save the document with a different name, reopen it with scribus and delete all the other pages) | 15:45:10 |
