techtino | This might seem odd but I feel like the linux desktop has gotten to the point where its just boring to use, because if you install fedora gnome or kde it just works??
Other than doing a few tweaks to make sure stuff is running with wayland its just a solid out of the box experience, which makes it boring. Anyone else? | 13:27:00 |
techtino | I guess this is when you go play with phones instead of your pc lol | 13:28:04 |
Orion ⎇ | maybe wouldn't say boring, but very comfy | 13:28:33 |
techtino | Yeah that may be the word! | 13:28:44 |
Orion ⎇ | I'm reminded of it every time I have to use a windows machine haha | 13:28:51 |
techtino | Not boring in a bad way at all either way | 13:28:53 |
Orion ⎇ | I just suffer | 13:29:03 |
techtino | Tell me about it, I was running windows for a bit because of hdmi 2.1 shenanigans and every time it woke from sleep or i disabled/enabled a monitor the entire machine would lock up for about 30 seconds. | 13:29:38 |
Orion ⎇ | though recently I had to add a .tablet file to make an XP Pen drawing tablet show up in GNOME settings, is that exciting enough? compared to installing proprietary drivers on windows? idk | 13:30:46 |
techtino | I have a tv which I use for gaming, and 2 monitors for other stuff, so with windows i have to disable the tv manually, then boot up steam and enter big picture mode, then change audio device manually. Soo every time I do that my machine locks up, annoying.
On linux I plopped in the gamescope-session-steam and there it is, i just logout and have the gaming mode I want. | 13:31:21 |
techtino | Yeah the next exciting bit I'll be trying is finally getting to see how well fractional scaling works as I have a framework laptop on the way, with a 3k screen at 13 inchs | 13:32:00 |

I heard kde plasma 6 has the best implementation currently | 13:32:15 |
Orion ⎇ | I think so | 13:32:43 |
