@_slack_hotosm_ULPKSCD47:matrix.orgmartien https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYjjhxYUSXo This video shows off the latest developments in RapId. Afaik it outperforms iD on rendering speed, among others. 19:39:15

@_slack_hotosm_UCZLBUHTN:matrix.orgRory Interesting pete_masters, are they using it for validation? 13:54:16

@_slack_hotosm_U363W5A2Z:matrix.orgtastrax So who was leading the marathon? It’s quite simple to square buildings with minimal instruction. 10:22:51
@_slack_hotosm_U3UJ0ASS2:matrix.orgr_aytoun There is no question about the Rapid editor's speed and functioning as a tool. The problem really lies with the data sets that we work with and how horrendously wrong they are for anything other than sparsely populated rural area. So it does not matter how fast you can work, if you have bad geometry to work with all you will be transferring is ... bad geometry. 14:11:08
@_slack_hotosm_U3UJ0ASS2:matrix.orgr_aytoun We still have the option RapiD but not Rapid in the HOT Tasking Manager 14:16:12

@_slack_hotosm_U2K2H3ZRN:matrix.orgpete_masters Hey Ralph, the point Said was making was that just as an editor (ie without any ML-derived data) it outperforms iD. Frtom your second point, I think you are saying that the old rapid is embedded in the TM, but not the new one... is that correct? 08:37:36
@_slack_hotosm_UNKM4RGET:matrix.orgNicole I actually use RapiD quite regularly and I like it, but haven’t noticed that many improvements that I think it outperforms iD in general. I’m curious if he mentioned anything specific? 08:37:43
@_slack_hotosm_U78C3AYJC:matrix.orgFrans About tagging of highways=residential in rural areas. Project 16303 is a mainly rural area where highways are to be mapped as well. I noticed that many mappers tag traces as 'highway=residential' where houses ar alongside a road. To my opinion. the tag residential should be used in more urban areas where the majority of the objects are buildings. I know, sometimes it is a gray area, but how to interprete the west african highway wiki where the tag highway=residential is mentioned. Especially in more rural areas with hamlets. Link to wiki : https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/East_Africa_Tagging_Guidelines example : task 503 of project 16303 When you open this link https://osmcha.org/changesets/149120584 in JOSM, you see residential highways mapped and tagged. Please comment Frans 10:10:08
@_slack_hotosm_UMZKQLDSN:matrix.orgJim Walseth The presenter demonstrated how to square a new building, and I actually interrupted his presentation and emphasized how important this step is. I'm sure what else could have been done. I was still sending messages in the task to the new mappers saying "please square your buildings" (as part of near real-time validation). Assuming good intentions from the mappers (which we should) I believe there is a usability problem. 17:33:46

@_slack_hotosm_U1GEXCQ4Q:matrix.orgJorieke Hello, is there someone here who would like to map the last task on this project? https://tasks.hotosm.org/projects/15738/ It seems it was validated by accident. Thanks! 12:18:14
@_slack_hotosm_U3UJ0ASS2:matrix.orgr_aytoun Jorieke Invalidated, still needs buildings mapped. 12:52:23
@_slack_hotosm_U2K2H3ZRN:matrix.orgpete_masters Mapped 🙂 13:23:51

@matkoniecz:matrix.orgmatkonieczIt seems that some HOT mappers put hashtags into name field, not wherever hashtags were supposed to go. Overpass query for interested: http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/1JwK03:21:48
@matkoniecz:matrix.orgmatkoniecz(I am also planning on reaching out to mappers - who likely will not respond - and then to whoever created this projects and is responsible for their validation)03:22:37
@matkoniecz:matrix.orgmatkonieczIs there some index of such detectors of issues characteristic to HOT mapping? I have some additional ones03:23:38
@matkoniecz:matrix.orgmatkonieczrendering backend is different03:24:39
@matkoniecz:matrix.orgmatkonieczNote: in many cases just removal of this "names" is not a full fix and other less blatant issues are often present03:34:09
