@_discord_340526822586449931:t2bot.io.borts Literally ‘what if a future southern sympathizers time-traveled back to the civil war to give the south AKs’ IIRC from reading it ages ago 00:24:16
@_discord_340526822586449931:t2bot.io.borts (It isn’t racist/separatist/propaganda that I recall, just the crazy premise for a story that it then tells both sides of) 00:25:43
@_discord_340526822586449931:t2bot.io.borts I liked his ‘Case of the Toxic Spelldump’ 00:27:55
@_discord_340526822586449931:t2bot.io.borts I loved that book as a kid, Nick Offerman did a passable recent recording 00:29:59
@_discord_340526822586449931:t2bot.io.borts Very early wish fulfillment story - ‘sufficiently advanced technology (1890s) is magic (800s)’ is basically the plot line 00:31:09

@_discord_340526822586449931:t2bot.io.borts I’ve probably physically read it 4-5 times, his version is the only one I’ve listened to
The characterizations aren’t great (they all just sound…like him) but his delivery itself isn’t bad

@_discord_340526822586449931:t2bot.io.borts having not read any of his stuff, can you provide an example of what you mean by magical realism? 01:31:22

@_discord_340526822586449931:t2bot.io.borts I looked on Wikipedia, sounded kinda like grounded fantasy 02:41:43

@_discord_340526822586449931:t2bot.io.borts Stranger Than Fiction (still thinking movies here) seems to be a good fit 03:00:27

@_discord_631939010536800336:t2bot.ioevequefou So basically, there's one fantastical element of the setup, but real world exploration of how that would play out thereafter? 19:46:24
@_discord_631939010536800336:t2bot.ioevequefou Maybe something like the Machine of Death anthologies? Though whether those have audio versions, I don't know. 19:47:19

@_discord_351313977881526272:t2bot.iosveinbjorn. I kinda need a new series. Just finished Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch. It was ok, solid. I’ve been stuck on sci-fi fantasy but I’m open to anything. I really like humor, worldbuilding and a philosophical undertone, my all time faves are Pratchett and Douglas Adams. Most of Foundation was amazing too.
I’m listening to Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.
Its good but not really for binge listening.
Didn’t like Jasper Fforde, too close to Pratchett & Adams without matching their heights.
Anything coming to mind?
