@matthew:matrix.orgMatthewdoes anyone have a windows machine to hand? if so, would it be possible to see if https://github.com/element-hq/element-docker-demo works on it?10:02:44
@matthew:matrix.orgMatthew(i assume it should Just Work with WSL2 + Docker Desktop, but i suspect it would be easier for someone else to check O:-)10:03:17

@spaetz:sspaeth.despaetzAre people interested in my installation notes of an matrix-call SFU? ie, TWIM-worthy?12:36:50
@spaetz:sspaeth.despaetz * Are people interested in my installation notes of an matrix-call SFU? ie, TWIM-worthy? In case yes, here is the entry. I'll let the editors make the call and am not offended if you ignore it πŸ™‚12:39:15
@spaetz:sspaeth.despaetzTWIM: Given the installation of an element call is still tricky (although there is a demo docker image now, rectifying this), here are my notes on how I installed element call on a Debian box using a mix of local services and a docker image: https://sspaeth.de/2024/11/sfu/12:40:32
@this-week-in:matrix.orgTWIMβœ… Thanks for the report spaetz, I'll store your update!12:40:33

I'm tried to install Element Call+Conduit without Docker
At moment of installing he didn't support /request_token open id endpoint :(

* @matthew:matrix.orgMatthew is fed up with all the "matrix 2.0 doesn't exist i don't know how to run it" complaints and wants to fix them :)13:10:16

@spaetz:sspaeth.despaetzYeah, my instructions are a tough competition against your demo docker though πŸ˜‹13:11:06

is already waiting for: I spun up the demo docker for my 10,000 employee company and matrix sucks

@cat:feline.supportCatI remember Element Call being the weakest part of the stack currently from a deployment perspective13:11:59
@cat:feline.supportCatConsidering MAS has options that are on the path to production ready that are not ESS. (ESS has some barriers to entry that some people might consider too tall and therefore completely discard that as an option for the home lab type of usecase or personal homeserver.)13:13:23
@mx:d3v0.med3v0 Tbh other than having to use Synapse, I have been using Element Call for (~) over a year now (before and after the LiveKit branch) and it deploys fine with minimal docker knowledge :)
Crossing fingers the key rotation bug is fixed in the next versions, cuz it casually caused people entering the call not to hear each other without having to reconnect (and so was inconvenient in unstable connections/high traffic calls)
15:13:10
@mx:d3v0.med3v0Element Call is pretty good and needs to be talked about more :)15:15:34
@matthew:matrix.orgMatthew spaetz: one note on https://sspaeth.de/2024/11/sfu/ - https://sspaeth.de/.well-known/element/element.json will likely be going away soon (in favour of embedding Element Call directly into the client apps). As otherwise it poses a security issue given a malicious EC widget could undermine the security of the app. 15:19:29
@spaetz:sspaeth.despaetzI see. Good to know, I might add a note15:20:42

πŸ‘€ Seems like Element Call wouldn't be able to be hidden or maybe disabled?

Although, nothing’s as permanent as a stopgap solution… πŸ˜‰
