(French below)

I think the concept is worth implementing as part of a plugin for an
existing platform.
I would suggest that Loomio has some similar concepts, but I do not use
it so you could explore it yourself.
Discourse has a very effective anti-spam working on similar principles,
they call it "trust levels".
See https://blog.discourse.org/2018/06/understanding-discourse-trust-levels/

Using a combination of the Discourse Policy plugin you could implement
policies in a democratic manner, then use the flag feature to resolve
the "off charter posts" and dump unwanted posts and participants.

I guess a simple plugin would allow to create groups an assign
membership on a random basis ("lottery") to take charge of a "Debate"
category for some specified amount of time -- Discourse already has
"category group moderation". I would not try such an experiment at forum
level because it could wreak havoc to your forum in no time if a
coalition of dormant trolls access such moderating power.

The idea seems interesting but I would warn about hard-writing rules to
figure what is politically incorrect. Most of the laws prior to the
1950s are either good willing or racist / colonialist, and many of them
following the 1970s tend to be neoliberal, verging on the fascist these
days, so the law may be a good indication but not necessarily the "right
one". Since this process is community-based you will probably end up
having a homogenous political spectrum in your community, which is not
necessarily what you want.

Since you're French, you might want to have a look at
https://www.cnnr.fr/, the "National Council of the New Resistance" that
proposes to elaborate a post-capitalist, post-growth, post-neoliberal
political program to safeguard what's left of life on Earth.

In any case I would suggest you refine your idea to figure out what
exactly you want to develop and the context (Loomio, Discourse, other)
where you want to apply your principles. I think what you describe has
much potential for facilitating online debate, but also that if you
overlook the political threats, it can as well de disastrous for your
community (see what happens with populism everywhere, where mob-style,
lobby-piloted, prejudice-based political (lack of) thought is used
instead of informed democratic debate.) If you're interested in pursuing
such endeavor, I'd be happy to review your findings and proposals.

Hi Julien!

Online deliberation is such an important topic! In fact, it's the subject
of my current phd research! I know of a few projects that have attempted to
improve online deliberation. There are many possible approaches, so you may
or may not find that one of these meets your needs, but they can all give
deep insight into online deliberation.

Discourse - a "civilized discourse construction kit" created by (among
others) Jeff Atwood of Stack Overflow fame.
Loomio - forum software with built in voting and polling features
Wikum, Tilda, and PolicyKit - A collection of tools from Amy Zhang focused
on collaborative summarization and governance
Consider.it - deliberation software focused on pros/cons
Hypothes.is - social annotation software

And here's a link to some of the work I've been doing:
https://medium.com/@elplatt/building-consensus-through-deliberation-in-large-collaborations-organizations-and-cooperatives-79d28c3e3acc

Also, the project is no longer live, but Charlie DeTar's work on
Intertwinkles is very much worth reading:

Bonne chance!

Hi,

We started a small hackerspace in France for spreading DIY spirit and
starting discussion about privacy on internet and how to include numeric
in the constitution.
It was 8 years ago.

Now... here we are!
May some people will need support.

I'm too old now for this.

Hi all, just read about the hack attempts of the vaccine secrets, and I've
also been reading about the idea of an open source vaccine. What are your
thoughts on what is happening in this regard? I'm invited to a podcast
today to talk about this and I wanted the perspective of the hackerspace
community:

View this message online at https://email.t2bot.io/m/462fa6f2-55bb-4cce-b958-8adc7b052393
Hi folks, happy new year!

About five years ago, this ML discussed where to best get a laser cutter.

At Coredump hackerspace we're also thinking about buying one. Here are our goals:

- At least 40x60cm working area, a bit larger would be better (but <100cm)
- Adjustable bed
- At least 50W
- Air assist
- Ruida controller
- Nice to have: Autofocus
- Budget: Ideally around 2500 CHF / 2800 USD total cost (including shipping, modifications, etc) but 3000 CHF / 3300 USD would probably work as well

The obvious choice nowadays would be the generic Chinese 50-60W Blue-White/Yellow-Black lasers by Orion Motor Tech (aka OMTECH), the bigger versions of the K40. I found a lot of good guides on YouTube[0][1] and they seem to be very affordable (as long as you're ready to do some fixing and mods yourself). However, Amazon doesn't really ship to Switzerland, and I haven't found many Ebay sellers that look serious and who ship to Switzerland. The ones I found are from non-EU eastern Europe or China, so I probably wouldn't have any advantage compared to directly ordering from China.

[0] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aChvqAA86QM
[1] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHclUKSMzqY

That reminded me of the G.Weike recommendation that a few of you posted on here in the previous e-mail thread. Their machines do seem to look very solid[2], but maybe outside our budget? (It's a bit hard to find actual prices on Alibaba.)

[2] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp4tMvWjSNs

That brings me to my five questions:

- In 2021, would you still recommend G.Weike, or is Orion a better deal?
- Do you have links to Ebay or Alibaba sellers that ship Orion lasers internationally and with whom you've made good experiences?
- Do you have a contact at G.Weike with whom you've made good experiences?
- Any other laser recommendations?

Cheers and have a safe 2021,
Danilo

Dear maker, hacker, mender, tinkerer

This is a call for you to take part in a survey.

Given the current pandemic situation, where many makerspaces are closed to slow down the spread of Covid-19, this survey provides a space for you to share your thoughts. How do you experience this situation, where you are unable to visit your local makerspace or open workshop?

The survey is part of a research project at the Department of Human Geography in Lund, Sweden.

Here you find the survey and as well as further information: https://sunet.artologik.net/lu/Survey/32011/en

Please share the invitation with others who might have something to say on the matter.

I'm looking forward to receiving your answers!

*TL;DR: What non-fall-arrest-requring ways would you suggest cleaning the exterior of the fixed half of a sash window?*

Hi folks,

I've finally outgrown the flat opp. Summerhall, so I'm moving! This means I need need to tackle the elephant that is clean my windows.

In normal non-*gestures at the whole situation* times, I'd probably just harness up and borrow the appropriate temporary fall arrest gear from work - perhaps buy my upstairs neighbors a case of beer in return for letting me put a pair of parapet clamp anchors on their window sill, or a doorjamb anchor, or something similar.

However - there is a pandemic on and it's been a year since I've done *any* work at height, let alone actually doing any complex ropework, so I turn to the ehlab-and-adjacent hivemind - how would you attack this problem?

Cheers,

Yo.

my 2 cents.

Hi ! (just noticed the that the discussion was a bit old, nvm, it's cool.)

Sorry about not speaking english. This thread is about "decision making
with the help of software".

Huuuuuge subject, even treated in movies, animes, books, etc. (do we
need IA for this ?)

I'v found the software I'm talking about below : echo.to. the website
seems to have disapeared surely because of RoR ! ;D not kidding, the
project took some money from EU and disapeared ! that's not cool at all.

I'v found traces of it on way back machine :
https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://echo.to

The project code is still online on github :
https://github.com/echosystem/echo

Anyway, "WikiDebats" is better and alive ! Big up to the people behind
it ! <3 !

https://fr.wikidebates.org/wiki/Portail:D%C3%A9bats

(one of my favorite question is :
https://fr.wikidebates.org/wiki/Dieu_existe-t-il_%3F

but there's a lot of other ones that deserve much attention.)

I feel you men.

1/ stop beer

2/ build a giant robot

3/ pilot the giant robot from you computer.

easy.

or

don't clean it. dirty things are cool, they have a spirit who says "fuck the system I'm dirty !".

troll aside : you could cut a long stick of wood like 5m or more and do it from the ground (and don't stop beer).

One of these might not be the worst idea:

window glass is usually a twin wall though so it might not be strong enough.
