charlag | did we only retain position in home timeline? I have tusky getting kicked our of memory and it keeps resetting list timeline, pretty annoying | 19:59:06 |

Tak! | I'm not sure tbh | 07:42:30 |
loke | I'm running Tusky test, and for the last few days I've had it hard crash every time I try to play. Reading works fine. Playing from the web site works fine so I don't think it's a problem on the instance side. Anyone seen this? | 16:09:24 |
Tak! | play … a video? | 17:43:09 |

connyduck | In case you mean posting, that should be fixed in the most recent update from today. | 13:33:54 |

connyduck | I had a look at the implementation, they use Google ML Kit for the scanning part. That is closed source and will only work on devices with Google Services, I think we will have to think about something else if we want the same feature. | 20:09:33 |
charlag | usually devices come with qr scanners already, we just need to generate one or? | 21:41:25 |
mcc111 | In reply to @charlag:m.charlag.space usually devices come with qr scanners already, we just need to generate one or? Apparently the QR code is just the profile URL. So I think a third party QR Code app would not have a way to refer the URL to Tusky unless we accepted a share target, which might be a confusing flow for a user.
There seems to be at least one QR reader library for Android but idk what the space cost is.

Tak! | btw, on latest nightly I keep accidentally going back two steps from detailed view - maybe with the new fast transitions, we need some debounce on the back button? | 07:46:22 |
connyduck | In reply to @charlag:m.charlag.space usually devices come with qr scanners already, we just need to generate one or? Yes, that is what Mastodon Android uses. https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/vision/barcode-scanning/code-scanner But as I understand it, that is not a Android feature, but a Google Services feature and will not work on degoogled phones. | 14:37:11 |
connyduck | And for the generating part they use ZXing | 14:40:02 |
charlag | In reply to @connyduck:matrix.org Yes, that is what Mastodon Android uses. https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/vision/barcode-scanning/code-scanner But as I understand it, that is not a Android feature, but a Google Services feature and will not work on degoogled phones. that's not what I mean. Usually you can scan with a camera app or with a browser app | 14:46:19 |
charlag | I think that it opens in browser is actually not the worst thing in the world? | 14:46:41 |
charlag | In reply to @eviltak:matrix.org btw, on latest nightly I keep accidentally going back two steps from detailed view - maybe with the new fast transitions, we need some debounce on the back button? transitions are actually slower than before but I'm curious why it happens | 14:47:04 |
connyduck | In reply to @charlag:m.charlag.space I think that it opens in browser is actually not the worst thing in the world? yeah better than nothing | 14:47:34 |
connyduck | But I'm not sure if we even need the feature? Its not really a user requested one, is it? More like a random Gargron idea. | 14:48:16 |
charlag | In reply to @connyduck:matrix.org yeah better than nothing I get why it's inconvenient but it's actually nice to see the page with styling of the original instance, at least once. web profiles should just include some "open in app" button that triggers mastodon: url or something | 14:49:23 |
charlag | I also think it's like third order priority | 14:49:34 |
