I personally refuse to participate in such maddness, to run a web-client in kind-a-desktop version of it, which is just a browser with only one tab with that riot-web, crap. Should we have something C++, Rust, Python at least for primary desktop client? XMPP for example does have a lot of proper desktop clients, which are really decent, and zero electron shit Ignoring obvious difficulties with Electron for things like a11y, Electron probably does make most sense for a flagship client right now as it's very easy to target the three main desktop platforms with it with feature parity. That said, there are other desktop clients available as I am sure that you know by now | 09:52:24 |
lotus_ | wrong | 09:53:27 |
dud1337 | Well argued | 09:54:47 |
lotus_ | it is bloated heavy slow and many other bad things, flagship client should be C++ or something, with variable toolkits for various systems | 09:55:16 |
lotus_ | GNU/Linux and *BSD and Apple OS pretty much same platform | 09:55:49 |
neilalexander | If you have ever had the joy of trying to write a GUI app for Linux, BSDs and macOS all at the same time then you will know that's not really as simple as you make it out to be | 09:56:17 |
neilalexander | Especially for anyone who has suffered GTK or Qt on macOS :-) | 09:56:29 |
cos | I agree it sucks technically, but you get it "free" if you have a web client. | 09:56:36 |
lotus_ | ever heard of QTCreator? | 09:56:47 |
neilalexander | But what I am not really sure of is whether you are here to discuss the merits of Matrix vs XMPP and how it might actually work for you, or whether you are here just to throw criticism and deflect help | 09:57:02 |
cos | Perhaps some day NV can afford to create a proper Riot desktop with Qt | 09:57:03 |

lotus_ | Fits both GTK and QT perfectly | 09:57:12 |

lotus_ | cos right, matrix there for about few years and yet, only one client completed and it is web client, sad. | 09:58:44 |
Mathijs | In reply to @f0x:pixie.town which xmpp clients are you talking about? I've yet to see a good useable one I'd like to know as well. Part of the reason I went to matrix was the lack of good desktop clients | 09:59:13 |
cos | Is Riot web considered completed? | 09:59:26 |
lotus_ | Foks, wow, MANY, Miranda, PSI+, pidgin, Gajim, Profanity, irssi, A LOT of 'em | 09:59:36 |
Mathijs | In reply to @cos:hacklab.fi Is Riot web considered completed? hell no :) | 09:59:40 |

Mathijs | I never got OMEMO to work with pidgin | 10:00:11 |
