swedneck:permaweb.io | riot-desktop is really just an extra thing that electron enables | 09:39:34 |
swedneck:permaweb.io | without electron there just wouldn't be a riot desktop app i'm pretty sure | 09:39:46 |

lotus_ | Dandellion I am currently seeking xmpp alternative... still don't see why Matrix any better, pretty much same, but with undeveloped "infrastructure", lack of functionality and clients | 09:46:26 |

I personally refuse to participate in such maddness, to run a web-client in kind-a-desktop version of it, which is just a browser with only one tab with that riot-web, crap. Should we have something C++, Rust, Python at least for primary desktop client? XMPP for example does have a lot of proper desktop clients, which are really decent, and zero electron shit Ignoring obvious difficulties with Electron for things like a11y, Electron probably does make most sense for a flagship client right now as it's very easy to target the three main desktop platforms with it with feature parity. That said, there are other desktop clients available as I am sure that you know by now | 09:52:24 |

dud1337 | Well argued | 09:54:47 |
lotus_ | it is bloated heavy slow and many other bad things, flagship client should be C++ or something, with variable toolkits for various systems | 09:55:16 |
lotus_ | GNU/Linux and *BSD and Apple OS pretty much same platform | 09:55:49 |
neilalexander | If you have ever had the joy of trying to write a GUI app for Linux, BSDs and macOS all at the same time then you will know that's not really as simple as you make it out to be | 09:56:17 |
