@viktor.saenko6819:matrix.org | seems like this room is dead, still I want to ask something
what's the best sdr for playing with WSPR-like protocols? rx and tx | 09:22:40 |
Norbert DL8LAQ | You can use any SDR-trx for WSPR! | 09:46:04 |
@viktor.saenko6819:matrix.org | In reply to @zcbxn:darc.de You can use any SDR-trx for WSPR! thanks, but what is the best price/perf-wise? | 10:12:53 |
Norbert DL8LAQ | I can‘t make a good advice. There are so many different SDR-Radios on the market, that I don‘t know of. I use some not so cheap radios. | 10:53:50 |

z4non | hi all:) im planning on installing rtl-sdr into a lil briefcase that has 10" display and a pi4 - wanting to keep it lightweight and portable i figured i just make a hole for the rt-sdr v4 and place an angled sma adapter on the side of it; with a small "gsm-like" antenna pointing up on the right side..i can share pics if this peeks anyone's interest.
I was just hoping someone could help me find what adapter and antenna i need. Coz i bought the diopolantenna taht came with the rtl-sdr v4 also - but the sma extender dat came with didnt help much since the sdr has sma-female. | 16:53:39 |
AL9D | antenna depends on use case. but if you just want a short sma male-female jumper then something like this? https://www.amazon.com/DZS-Elec-Connecting-Frequency-Connector/dp/B06XVR6TV6/ref=sr_1_8 | 17:03:27 |
AL9D | BUT it might be better, depending on various factors to just use a short USB cable to stick the sdr dongle's sma female out of the enclosure | 17:04:39 |
z4non | Ok thanks. I think i can use those sma extenders. And it would be easier to have it outside of the case/box indeed. I may do that if i dont find a nice small sma-male antenna i can use, i.e "plug n play".
Use case btw is just FM recieveer out on camping, i guess that is shortwave, i could actually also need some help with setting my dongle up so it doesnt cause any interference. But i will check with local radio clubs also because of perhaps some legal restrictions, for which i will take whatever license is needed. | 17:10:17 |
z4non | This one is supposedly a sma-male?

z4non | But since i am clueless rly, i dont know if this antenna is good for my usage. | 17:12:55 |
z4non | * This one is supposedly a sma-male? edit; if im not reading it wrong.

AL9D | it isn't really since it will be cut for a much shorter wavelength | 17:17:07 |
AL9D | are you in .se? | 17:17:20 |
z4non | yes | 17:17:25 |
AL9D | RTL-SDR is receive-only so no worries about interference or licenses there | 17:19:20 |
z4non | oh ok nice to know:) | 17:19:34 |
AL9D | I guess you don't want to use the included telescoping dipole because it is too big and awkward? | 17:21:46 |
