Cluedrew | eaterjolly: Who ever designed Hoon/Nock is insane. Unfortunately it is also irreverent to the point of self destructiveness, especially with regards to naming things. Let me list out some example:
atom: There atomic unit, you could also call them naturals or something but considering they "become" other things at higher levels I see why they didn't go with that. cell: Odd name for a pair but I believe that is what LISP calls them so sure, this one actually has some legacy. noun: You could just call them values at this point; and they are sometimes "verbs". I suppose it could be a layer separation thing. auras: If there is any reason why type or type annotation couldn't have been used? If so I couldn't figure out what it was. [Mid-level weird names omitted.] gates: Full name "gate (commonly called a function in other languages)", I find the fact that almost every time the name comes up it is followed by a call back to function a bad sign. legs: I couldn't actually figure out what a leg was. They seem to appear around arms which both might be types of wings. | 17:21:02 |

eaterjolly | Quite convoluted from the standpoint of someone already invested in pre-existing programming conventions, but from Tlon's perspective recruiting more people into lower level programming requires neurologically efficient conventions not only by having tight code but adapting standard vocabulary to a programming context. | 09:27:09 |

Legs = data structures
Since urbit (like lisp) is homoiconic,
Hoon can treat functions as data structures
or data structures as functions.
Hence the generic name "limb" applies. | 09:37:31 |
