@corbenic:matrix.org | is that a thing | 04:26:34 |
@corbenic:matrix.org | * is that a thing, like how's it work | 04:26:35 |
@corbenic:matrix.org | and then you hit them up after like years not realizing they might not give a shit anymore | 04:26:35 |
@corbenic:matrix.org | this homie from down the street that i give rides to work sometimes talked about it but we didn't have much time | 04:27:14 |
@corbenic:matrix.org | he's a furry and a poet too, weird situation bout how we kept running into each other lol | 04:28:16 |
@corbenic:matrix.org | i was just drinking at a bowling alley bar doing kareoke and met him, we were partying for a while before i relized the woman i'm chatting with sometimes is his mom | 04:33:01 |
@corbenic:matrix.org | drank a weird drink, peach shnapps and soda water, really good tho | 04:33:23 |
@corbenic:matrix.org | then like months later i saw him working at the fast food place near me and that he lived on my block | 04:34:00 |
@corbenic:matrix.org | also what's up with identity-first language? i thought it was the other way around? | 05:53:45 |

Jez (he/him) | corbenic: what do you mean about identity-first language? | 07:42:50 |
moved to ijyx:cat.casa | identity first language means calling me an "autistic person" instead of a "person with autism" (person-first language)
Most autistic people prefer IFL bc PFL is stigmatizing and inaccurate
Stigmatizing bc it portrays autism as a bad thing that we need to be separated from. Many NTs who use PFL also say that the word "person" needs to come first for emphasis, implying that they need to remind themselves that we are people.
"Person with autism" gives me the same vibes as it would to call me a "person with queerness"
Inaccurate because if you're autistic, autism is inherently a part of you. I cant think of one aspect thats part of my sense of identity (personality, relationships, interests etc) that is *not* directly influenced by my autism. Autism isnt something i "have" but part of who i am.
Attempting to separate me from my literal brain structure seems ridiculous | 07:50:45 |

@jack09877890:matrix.org | why do trans people control every room that is suppose to cater to Neurodiversity lol
What is all the deleted messages and such all the time? what a joke lol. | 15:05:25 |
@jack09877890:matrix.org | In reply to @jez:petrichor.me This is a pretty good summary of the issues https://autistictic.com/2020/08/10/autism-self-diagnosis-yay-or-nay/ That is like suggesting that people can just diagnose all their own health problems perfectly without a doctor or psychiatrist lol. No it doesn't work. You also get people that want to be autistic for the attention and then genuinely autistic people who never want anyone else to know that they are autistic. Then you have people with very debilitating autism and others who are so high functioning that it is debatable on whether or not they are even on the spectrum. | 15:13:41 |
@jack09877890:matrix.org | With the previous mentions of Hans Asperger. Judging by the very sensitive disposition of this room I highly doubt that any of you actually know what he
said about autism. You guys would definitely NOT like it lol. He didn't outright hate autists, but he definitely saw it as a major disability in the majority of cases.
I mean it is still considered a disability today and it is, but obviously many people disagree with that.
One of his early publications was called "autistic psychopathy in childhood". | 15:42:16 |
@corbenic:matrix.org | i mean he was a nazi right | 23:28:41 |

@huntsmoodddn489:matrix.org | In reply to @corbenic:matrix.org i mean he was a nazi right He was alive when Hitler was and existed in Austria......... lol calling him a nazi is like calling a person that shakes hands with a child a pedophile lol. | 11:36:49 |
17 Aug 2021 |
moved to ijyx:cat.casa | The "Was asperger a nazi" discussion always ends in a discussion about semantics tbh.
Fact is that there's at least two children we know of who were referred to Spiegelgrund by him.
Whether or not that makes him a nazi, i dont know, but it definitely doesnt make him a good person | 15:46:42 |
Jez (he/him) | It's also not a very useful argument to have since he died over 40 years ago and understanding of autism has moved on a lot since then | 21:16:22 |
