Pirate Praveen | Add to that the rewrite every now and then making efforts to package simply a waste of time. | 09:25:41 |
Pirate Praveen | The entire effort to package deskapp is a waste (as is the effort to create it in the first place, but I don't control that). | 09:26:49 |
Pirate Praveen | By the time we manage to package if you rewrite it and we have to start from scratch again, that is not a good use of our time. | 09:28:19 |
| Pirate Praveen invited Manas kashyap. | 09:29:10 |
| Pirate Praveen invited unixia. | 09:29:27 |
| Pirate Praveen invited rajudev. | 09:29:42 |
| Pirate Praveen invited divatemangesh. | 09:30:08 |
Pirate Praveen | But its only my individual opinion, others are free to decide for themselves. | 09:31:14 |
Abhijith | Pirate Praveen: I respect your opinion but I request you to reconsider this. We are not advertising Facebook. As you are aware most of our communication with users is via e-mail. Facebook is only used to post updates. We have mailing lists for users and devs, an official mail id and a support portal which are the means of communication 90% of the time. | 10:21:39 |
Abhijith | Regarding rewrites, the backend is not going to change . Front end is about to be changed because we need to remove an additional layer of Python for view. | 10:24:51 |
Pirate Praveen | Abhijith: it is not the only reason, but its like the last nail on the coffins. When you link to Facebook, you are promoting them, especially when there is a trend of businesses going facebook-free. | 10:25:17 |
Pirate Praveen | But you started only recently with python? | 10:25:47 |
Pirate Praveen | It is the frequency or rewrites that is the problem. | 10:26:10 |
Pirate Praveen | I will check back if you stay on react for a reasonable time. | 10:30:40 |

We are mainly catering to people in India. That too primarily yo small and medium Traders. Most of them may not even use E-Mail regularly but use Facebook. If we drop our Fb presence we will not be able to reach them. | 10:32:07 |
Pirate Praveen | There may be others in the Debian community who agree with your choices, I hope they will continue with packaging gnukhata. | 10:34:30 |
Abhijith |
I will check back if you stay on react for a reasonable time.
Very very likely. Considering the fact that React community forced Facebook to keep it under a free license. | 10:35:35 |
Pirate Praveen | But how is that relevant here? Are you switching for philosophical reasons? | 10:38:28 |

No. But there was a threat of relicensing of React. We will be stranded if such a thing happens. | 10:41:59 |
Pirate Praveen | But swt remaining Free Software or pyramid remaining Free Software was not a reason for you to dump them. | 10:44:43 |
Pirate Praveen | This is 4th change of front end now! | 10:45:09 |
Pirate Praveen | If you have not found a dependable framework for front end till now, there is no compelling reason to believe you will stay. Let's wait and see. | 10:46:23 |
Pirate Praveen | I'd be happy to be proven wrong :) | 10:47:03 |
Pirate Praveen | You spend so much effort to change ui frameworks and there never was a useable Debian package any time. It shows where your priorities lie. | 10:48:31 |
| rajudev joined the room. | 11:34:10 |
| unixia joined the room. | 11:44:52 |
Abhijith | Switching to REST has proved to be a very good decision and we do not need | 13:48:26 |
Abhijith | feel any need to change it. | 13:48:48 |
Abhijith | I am sure react will be such a dependable solution for front end. | 13:49:30 |
Abhijith | Sorry for the typos. Typing in a Rickshaw | 13:50:11 |
