n-ce | That will probably also reduce the loading time of the navigation drawer, currently it's pretty janky. | 05:40:08 |

Blade 🇷🇺 | Does anyone use a script to change the ipv6? I think my crontab don't seem to work too well if at all, as I have to manually run a script to change the ipv6 and restart the piped backend and my invidious instances. | 11:39:16 |
Bnyro | I do use it and it works well. | 12:02:01 |
Dragos | In reply to @nce:matrix.org @Dragos this is a huge change but can you put the efy specific settings under customisation just like preferences , history , and others. A normal user wouldn't always interact with those settings so it's unnecessary visual clutter every time one wants to navigate the site. wouldn't then the menu be just 5 buttons initially or whatever? that's a lotttt of empty space... but maybe you mean something else? | 12:23:56 |
Dragos | cuz rn the preference page has piped settings and the sidebar has efy + some piped features specific to efy, if I hide efy from the first interaction with the menu, then there's nothing to do in the menu... it's an extra step to do the same stuff as before | 12:25:34 |
Dragos | and if we wanted to move piped settings to that sidebar (which could be cool I guess), so that it's all just 1 place for all settings, then we couldn't do it on the efy branch cuz it would mean having to maintain a lot of stuff, unless it becomes official and I don't have to have huge differences | 12:27:54 |
Dragos | Or if we wanted to move efy to the preferences page, which is not possible, same issue, if we want an easy time maintaining the branch we either have to not make lots of big changes and if they are, then isolated in the menu, cuz that's easier, or make big changes, but then make it official | 12:30:04 |
Dragos | * cuz rn the preferences page has piped settings and the sidebar has efy + some piped features specific to efy, if I hide efy from the first interaction with the menu, then there's nothing to do in the menu... it's an extra step to do the same stuff as before | 12:31:25 |
Dragos | what I can do tho when we get more piped features, is to expand the piped area so that it has a higher priority, but that can also be annoying for some people... cuz if you think about it, rn the menu doesn't assume what the user wants too much, it has piped stuff at the top, efy at the bottom (most of it currently, I agree), but the user gets to open what they want each time and it's 1-3 steps away in most cases | 12:36:19 |
Dragos | we can try expanding the piped area for a while and see what people think maybe | 12:38:07 |
Dragos | assuming there will be more features soon tho, cuz rn there's just a few lol | 12:38:47 |
Dragos | oh and if you mean creating a separated page just for efy, I can kinda see what you mean, that could be cool maybe if users like it after using it, tho the 2 problems would be:
- you'd have to leave the video you're watching to change the theme, which can be annoying
- currently the menu wouldn't fit very well on a full width page on desktop, I could work on that tho, cuz I wanna let people resize the menu on desktop in the future, but it also means I'd have to fix 2 issues instead of just 1
| 12:43:30 |
Dragos | the main selling point of a sidebar menu is to not interrupt what you're doing too much, if you move it to a specific page, then you lose that feature | 12:45:36 |
