Andy | Source | I think it will really help clarify to users the differences between schema and collection/view, and save them from messing up later when the differences are more important | 20:28:43 |
Andy | Source | an interface/schema is declaration of shape and is useless on its own, it needs something to implement it in order to be useful | 20:30:01 |
Fred | Source | If we are clear that defining a type is only creating a schema, then I don't think they can mess up from there. The schema can then be applied to collections or views. | 20:30:24 |
Andy | Source | That's true 🙂 The ambiguity is reduced either way | 20:30:58 |
Andy | Source | * That's true 🙂 The ambiguity there is reduced either way | 20:31:08 |
John | Source | agree with andy, slight preference to the interface stuff as I feel it more strongly enforces/communicates the seperation of shape vs collection. But it has its clear downsides too. | 20:33:21 |
Andy | Source | But it has its clear downsides too
The biggest for me is the increased 'bending' of the GQL spec in the omission of fields, but then again, I like Rust 😂
I do also like that it provides a natural way to add collection only fields, which the @collection directive does not. | 20:35:51 |
John | Source | Mentioned this already to Fred, but ive been more active in my Rust education lately, and in addition to my theoretical enjoyment, ive found some (albeit kicking and screaming) enjoyment in the concrete, specifically as it relates to Syntax. I dont think I agree with some of it, especially the lifetime syntax, but its clearer that further down the rabbit whole you go.... Maybe thats why I like the interface suggestion... indoctrination is a powerful weapon 🦀 🦀 🦀 | 20:39:45 |

John | Source | theres lot of bots too with package registries, to re-index or w.e. They just track the activity on the registry. In addition to the CI | 22:41:10 |
