| Kegan | right, I know my problem. The spec is unclear at https://matrix.org/docs/spec/server_server/unstable#put-matrix-federation-v1-send-join-roomid-eventid - the auth_chain that is returned, is it:
- the auth chain for the join event being submitted in the request
- the auth chain for the entire current room state
Dendrite currently does the former when processing the request: https://github.com/matrix-org/dendrite/blob/aebf347a79102597a359dcd59bb45593c8352780/roomserver/query/query.go#L706 , but then attempts to verify the latter: https://github.com/matrix-org/gomatrixserverlib/blob/ddc7feaaf2fda1d801f96f94c9c3919ca43b7593/federationtypes.go#L358 - which is it?
