@vancha112:matrix.orgvancha112Hey everyone :)09:31:44
@vancha112:matrix.orgvancha112 For a non-technical bitcoin user, just someone that wants to have a bunch of bitcoin in a wallet to maybe donate to open source software projects or something, I'm looking for a way to buy a bunch of bitcoin (the minimum amount) somewhere. I've found coinbase (lot's of people recommended that for how secure it was), but I am afraid of Identity fraud. Coinbase does not let me obscure sensitive data from my ID card (and according to official state guidelines it is very ill-advised sending a full picture of your id card to anyone. 09:35:58
@vancha112:matrix.orgvancha112does anyone know of a good alternative to coinbase, that at least allows you to create an account with a bit less personal data?09:36:33

for storage of personal wealth I'd recommend using a hardware wallet with multiple, distributed backups (hopefully all encrypted with some passphrase, which is in a sealed envelope with your lawyer) — otherwise, keep your coins off custodial systems in general (not your keys, not your coin)

@vancha112:matrix.orgvancha112If it's not recommended to just keep them on your pc without so much encryption that it's no longer convenient, is there a trustworthy online wallet that you'd recommend?17:42:48
@remaeus:roleplaygateway.comRemæusthe encryption is for the backups, your online wallet (the one you might have connected to the Internet) can still be self-hosted and/or non-custodial18:10:39
@remaeus:roleplaygateway.comRemæusI use both Green Wallet (by Blockstream) and BitPay on Android, though the Shildbach Wallet is the optimal choice if you don't need advanced features (like multi-signature spending)18:11:51
@remaeus:roleplaygateway.comRemæusto be clear, wallet usually means "a collection of keysigning pairs"19:16:32
@remaeus:roleplaygateway.comRemæusBitcoin allows for other types of contracts to have deposit addresses, as well19:16:59
@gamaflow900:matrix.orggamaflow900How do you safely go from Monero to Bicoin on Shildbach Wallet?20:52:56
@eric:fabric.pubericsell monero for bitcoin somewhere, using your bitcoin address as final payment / withdrawal destination22:25:15
@gamaflow900:matrix.orggamaflow900Will it be enough for personal privacy? Or do I need to go trough a mixer first? The Monero that I brought, where aquired through fiat bank transfer, and are curently stored in an online monero wallet22:31:17
@eric:fabric.pubericit depends on how the sender constructs their transaction; from a public exchange, it's hard to imagine your coins not having some "taint"22:35:57
@eric:fabric.pubericprobably better to arrange on Bisq, or ideally anonymously elsewhere22:36:21
@gamaflow900:matrix.orggamaflow900It was a P2P exchange (accept the online wallet), no KYC, and the details kept to a minimum. My problem to begin with was, that Bisq required som Bitcoins I didn't have, so now I have stepped into the crypto exchange market. Face to face exchanges are bot feasable here, so Bisq or other P2P exchange is my only solution, unless someone wants to share a farm? Where else? How do I remove the "taint" from the Monero I have aquired, before transfering to the Shildback?23:58:23

@remaeus:roleplaygateway.comRemæusIn the worst cases you can contact a miner (or rent hashrate) for fresh coins; to remove taint, CoinJoin and shuffle21:38:09
@eric:fabric.pubericif it isn't KYC'd, it's very unlikely some future actor is going to be able to track you down — if you're using TOR, etc. even your broadcasting IP would be concealed to a State actor21:45:03
