At this time, It was chartered by Maesrk and was outgoing and carrying Maesrk cargo headed for Sri Lanka. No Maesrk crew were aboard the vessel. At the time of the ship's collision into the bridge, the Francis Scott Key bridge had already been shut down due to the distress calls from the ship. Before the Dali crashed into the bridge, they had already put out calls to the Coast guard and the Coast guard had already alerted the MDTA authorities to shut down all lanes of the bridge. However, we now know at this time that there were some people still on the bridge and that at least eight people went into the water. At this time, two people are confirmed dead, found in a red pickup truck in 25 feet of water near the middle span, and six others that were part of a construction crew that were doing asphalt patch work, filling potholes are known to all be missing and presumed dead. 18 hours after the accident, search & rescue has been halted and has now switched towards a recovery mission due to the length of time involved at this point and the fridged temperatures of the water. It has now been determined that there were 764 tons of Hazardous material held within fifty six different containers. The hazardous material included Flammables, Corrosives and Lithium-Ion batteries. It had become appparent that some of the containers had been breached and that there was a sheen noticed on the water. However it has not been disclosed at this time which containers were damaged. It has been said that the NTSB Will deliver a preliminary report within Three or four weeks and a final report Should not be expected for another twelve to twenty four months. The voyage data recorder has been recovered and the information is transcribed into the attached image. President biden has already called an emergency session and has called on congress to put forth a motion on the floor, for the government to pay for the entire reconstruction of the bridge ASAP.
