On my computer, I do have to use the down arrow key to read a paragraph - one line at a time. On Rosa's, we get nothing. I'll check out the shortcuts link and do a thorough read of the User Guide before posting further. I'm usually quite good at working through the wrinkles in "freeware" (supported by donations) but this one has me stumped so far. The manual says I should report a "bug" - but this seems premature to me. I uninstalled and reinstalled yesterday, but same problems persisted - and did the same right before writing this message. My thanks to Omar and Alan who responded. am writing on behalf of my wife, Rosa, who is trying to learn to use NVDA. Rosa is vision impaired and can navigate most websites. Reading more than a few words at a time is very tiring and gives her headaches. So, we are trying to get the read aloud function to work. After downloading NVDA, it read aloud a bit, but then cut out. We hover the mouse at the beginning of text on a webpage, but no voice is activated. Tried running through settings, but couldn't identify what's not working. Can anyone point us in the right direction? | 18:11:47 |

Hi. On 4/27 I posted to this list for the first time on behalf of my wife Rosa, who is vision impaired and needs read aloud support to use her computer and the web. My thanks to Omar and Alan who responded. I followed their recommendations, but the problem persists: NO sound when launching NVDA, hovering over text, or when exiting. In short: after downloading NVDA from NVAccess on her Win10 desktop, it read aloud a bit, but then cut out. [I can get it to work on my Win10 desktop.] Settings do not offer a solution - that I can find. Sound works on all her other apps. Can anyone point us in the right direction? Should we be pursuing a solution via another means? If so, what? Where? Thank you for your time, consideration of our dilemma, and any recommendations you may have to offer. Bob | 18:20:29 |

Can you try starting nvda using the keyboard shortcut alt ctrl n, after that press windows key plus d at the same time, and try moving through the desktop icons. If you here nvda talking then your copy of nvda working fine. If not, then pleas write back here.
